@Colin Ryan valid. But then I don't think it's fair to talk down on a high-energy freestyle when thats what he does when he goes on Sway. That's what all his fans wanted, and he gave us the chill creative on the album. Idk just seems like they thought down on how high energy he was

@@yankees4333 They provide a valid point though. Btw i am a giant supporter of Token. I have been since like 2015. With that being said, I agree with LIV. He could definitely use some guidance pertaining to his delivery, and kadence. I think he's amazing energy, and dedication to his craft. But he's missing out on special moments in verses that could elevate him to the next level. My thoughts only come from a place of love, as i wish to see him flourish in everything he strives to do.

He rapped on beat the whole time, I think when you're an artist, you can hear those different flow pockets, the 1 2 3 4 bar counts and whether he's hitting the snare or the kick everytime, he was even hitting pockets without the drums, surprised me yall heard it as off beat the whole time, also he changed his cadence with every beat, I think you guys really just looked at his movements and thought he looked silly so you ain't care about the bars this time around even tho he rebuttalled what you said about him having turrets, lmao.

bruhhh yall missed so many bars! that Genre hop bar was about MGK ("do Devil's work" - Rap Devil "we look alike but he is not my crop" - not alike - Eminem, and MGK hopped genres when Em did Killshot), and he absolutely killed the cadences and flow on every single beat! He was immediately matching the beats with his bars as soon as they dropped. Sure, a little more self control could take him a long way but the kid is barely 20 going through all that shit and working day and night on his craft, can't crucify him for his passion.

Ya'll musta not heard what I heard cuz that was fire....yes every young rapper needs guidance, but he's built his own brand in his teenage years in a very competitive market, plus he mostly spit that off-the-top and delivered bar after bar, with context, with 9-10 cadence switches almost on queue with the beat, then exposed his soul and story on that last track.

@@tpbandz9873 Yes some of it was def written....but he did a lot of off-the-top during every beat transition and perfectly matched his cadence to the beat and even the original song's rap-style within seconds. Promise you those transitions weren't written...he just kept riding the beat and then would fit into his pockets, then transition again....over and over again perfectly. He even imitated Luda's and Busta's voice and cadence.....that's all off the top!

Man I respect these dudes so much but I can’t have their back on this one.. I’m disappointed when they say stuff like no punchlines and lack of flows when that’s all this was, pure different Shit that any other rapper is doing. And to say he’s got childish bars when they hype up certain artists like 21 savage who is almost twice tokens age with the corniest most childish Shit I’ve heard, and 21 is monotone half the time. I just feel this genre Of so called “aggressive white rappers” they really don’t want to seem to relate to because of how different it is. This is tokens best work showing Such a range and an incredible ability to have insane flows on such typical beats, which were on beat btw, just different and I feel something they didn’t want to hear. If they kept along with token through the years instead just the sway free styles this would have hit them way different. Love y’all still And no hate just lack of understanding token as a legit far leagues different from most rappers.

It's his vocal delivery. It's very corny, cringe, and just overall bad. It's just that sort of overly technical style of rapping doesn't sound good over those kinds of beats unless you have a really good vocal tone that matches the overall aesthetic and vibe of the beat. Add that to his vocal fry, cracking voice, and high pitched/nasally tone, and it just sounds even worse. Lol. This is why Eminem often sounds really bad over trap beats, while someone like JID sounds fantastic over them. No matter how technical and intricate one's understanding and use of complex tempo changes, time signatures, and complex rhyme schemes are, if the vocal delivery, tone, and style, and sonic dimensions don't match the overall aesthetic and vibe of the beat, it won't sound good. You can have a flawless execution of the technical aspects, but if you don't have a good understanding of the sonic dynamics of rapping and how to use them to be sonically appealing, you're not going to sound good. Again, a great example of this is JID. JID could rap in this exact same style with the exact same flow and tempo change ups and still sound incredible over this beat because his overall vocal style and understanding of what makes a verse sonically appealing is very good. People like 21 savage because he has improved a lot. I used to think he was absolutely terrible, but I was kind of shocked at how much his rapping ability has improved since his initial come up. Good for him tbh, cool to see. I hated him until i am > i was and now I’m realizing how good Savage' Mode and Without Warning were. He has a very minimalist style, but it’s fire and it works because he's developed an understanding for what his weaknesses and strengths are and how to maximize and pick and choose what production aspects and sonic aspects work best with his minimalistic style. He didn't have that as much when he first started. Savage Mode II was fire because of how well his rapping went with Metro’s production. His feature on J. Cole’s My Life was really impressive too. Also, 21 savage isn't trying to compete and be some super technical lyricist, whereas token is.
@CalebCushman
@CalebCushman Жыл бұрын
@@myjciskate4 ok but they were all over token on more than just how he sounded, they straight up said cadences were bad and he had no punchlines. Just because you don’t like the sound of someone’s voice over a beat doesn’t undermine all the technical abilities he showed which they ignored for the most part, or some flew over their heads mainly. I agree with most you said but simply voice tone is all opinion and shouldn’t take away from what he delivers in terms of smart sophisticated rap. People have always hated Em just because of his voice and nasally tone, still he is one of the greats. And like i said they praise 21 when he monotone and sounds the same over any track and has fewer abilities or punchlines compared to most. Still he has gotten better but he’s in his own lane that people f with, just like how token is but they still see what 21 has to offer for who he is, they didn’t do that for token and what he has built for himself.

Even Biggies Freestyles were basically album lyrics, but didn't sound as good as the same verses on his CDs and mixtapes. You have to listen to his actual studio tracks before you judge. Granted his last one wasn't my cup of tea, but he had some bangers on there. His between LP songs, strangely enough, are probably his best work.

He's not off beat at all, but his voice is very cringe and corny imo. He actually demonstrated incredible mastery & understanding of time signatures. He's weaving in and out of the pocket seamlessly while alternating between ending and accentuating on the "on" and "off"beats. And he's doing it all while consistently changing the flow, complex rhyme scheme structure, and inflections continuously. Most people aren't used to that intricate and technical of speed and tempo change ups, in addition to the very technical theme scheme style, so it sounds unusual to the ear on first listen. That being said, even if it's technically flawless. That sort of writing style won't sound good if you don't have great and sonically pleasing vocal delivery and style. Token's vocal delivery and style is just so bad here, regardless of how technical his tempo changes and understanding of time signatures are. Token's voice is so insanely goddamn corny to me. Like it literally makes me cringe. Lol 🤣

@@sidettildem Nah, it's just that sort of overly technical style of rapping doesn't sound good over those kinds of beats unless you have a really good vocal tone that matches the overall aesthetic and vibe of the beat. JID could rap in this exact same style with the exact same flow and tempo change ups and still sound incredible over his beat because his overall vocal style and understanding of what makes a verse sonically appealing is very good.

Household name in my opinion is a well-put together song from Token. Its got flow, bars, lyrics, dope beat and the structure you want from a song when it comes to verses and chorus. Check it out!

I would definitely suggest you guys try out some of his studio made songs next time you give Token a listen. He’s not my taste all the time, but he really has a lot more to offer than what was in this freestyle. A lot of his stuff is very introspective and pouring his heart out. Suggestions for introspective/meaningful writing: Somewhere In Between, One Like Equals (music video), and No Service (music video)

This post hit home!! They definitely missed this 100%. Tokens delivery is exactly that outta the box and wild which is what separates him from all the others. His word play is INSANE. They’re worried about him actually spitting then what he’s actually spitting. Super let down by these two on this one.

See the thing is that Token came up doing rap battle's on World MC, He use to destroy people he was up against on Bar Fights 6yrs ago. I dont think he lacks the punchline's at all. I think the delivery and cadence sometimes is too much. But he has always done this when doing freestyles, However If you guys actually listen to his songs though like for example his song Republican than you will probably look at him a little differently.
