It's so nice to see a review of lenses that is done by a film-maker instead of just some film-making nerds. Everyone knows exactly what I mean haha. Great review.

I was strongly considering Sigma primes until now. The sharpness and hot swappable mounts is a real game changer for me. Thanks for the review.

Beautifully produced! At Manifold Recording, we have the full Cine Vista set (18,25,35,50,85,105), plus two Cinema ATX lenses (100mm macro and 11-20 zoom). Love them so much I pre-ordered the 135 T1.5 in September. Should be shipping early next month. One thing to know about T1.5: no lens has as much MTF% at T1.5 compared to T2, and again compared to T2.8. Shallow DOF is wonderful, but postprocessing needed to make it look as sharp as one gets naturally at T2.8.

It's not just these really interesting contributions that make up this channel, it's the play of light, the mixture of beautiful images and a sound that underlines all of this, crowned by a very pleasantly sympathetic voice. Simply brilliant, keep it up.

What a beautiful image from these lenses. They have a softness to them without being soft . Or say a sharp lens with a gentle rendering maybe. I like them for sure . With the apples in the trees it showed their roundness. Not the roundness of the apples either if you know what I mean . Thanks for the review and I subscribed

Wonderful review as always. I've been leaning toward the Red for a few months. Although I own and still use Zeiss CP2 lenses, I'm leaning toward the Tokina Cinema Vista Prime now. Even the fact that we are so close to having a shift to 8K and increasing sensors sizes are incentives enough. Additionally, you make excellent points. Keep doing what you do. Great job on the you tube video and short film.

Thank you very much for the excellent review. It would be helpful if you could clarify whether there are meaningful weight issues. Are these lens too heavy for a small rig set up (Red) as I am mostly interested about on the field documentaries ? Should a lens support always be used as the mount might not be able to handle the weight for long period of time ? I looked at Zeiss CP3, but the Tokina Lenses seem to be a step above in many areas. Tks !
@NiceladyproductionsCanada
@NiceladyproductionsCanada 2 жыл бұрын
Hi, so I mention weight because overall weight of a rig can be important, say for a gimbal or long shoots, hiking with gear etc… wherever weight might be an important factor. I’d weigh your current setup without a lens, how heavy is it? If your camera and batteries are way lighter then the lens and matte box it can be front heavy and awkward for hand held work as you’ll be fighting against a camera that’s pointing down. If you always run a shoulder rig and your camera setup is similar than I don’t think there are any concerns except overall weight. As for lens support, it’s safer to have it and it can help prevent flex when using a follow focus. RED’s have strong mounts otherwise. Hope this info helps.!

Awesome review! Looks like a set of great versatile cine-lenses with full gearing... interesting to see how they compare visually to Otus range. Loved the focus racking + whispering time with small friends :) How old are the little ones?

Which would you say is better, these lenses or the Cook S4? I know S4's are way more money but which would you rather have?
@KaceyBakerFilms
@KaceyBakerFilms 2 жыл бұрын
Cooke S4s have been a Hollywood standard. Vista’s only claim to fame is Ted Lasso. They aren’t comparable if you have the budget.

You maybe helped me save almost 19,000 dollars :-) I was thinking to buy ARRI signature primes or Zeiss supreme . Maybe they don’t have all features, but in sharpness it seems extremely good, which was my favorite metric . I do want to ask you please , what did you mean when you said that Sony cameras are sharper to start with? Is that relative to RED or in general? Is that for specific Sony cameras ? Thanks for the input and have a great day :-)

How does the low light compare between the Xeen primes, the Sigma 18-35 and the Tokina Cinema ATX 11-20mm T2.9 Wide-Angle Zoom Lens? I have been holding back from getting lenses in an effort to try and find the right one for day to day use with a GH5 that already has difficulty with low light and needs a more wide open aperture to get shallow depth of field. I figure if I can't afford a set of primes getting a zoom or two could be the right way to go.
@NiceladyproductionsCanada
@NiceladyproductionsCanada 5 жыл бұрын
The Sigma 18-35 would be the best in low light because it goes to 1.8 BUT if you use a metabones adaptor it becomes a 1.2 and the T2.9 in canon would also become better in low light with a metabones adaptor.

I can't find much real-world footage from the 11-20 ATX. And there was only a short clip of it in this video. I am greatly concerned about how much that lens breathes. Could you share your experience?
@NiceladyproductionsCanada
@NiceladyproductionsCanada 5 жыл бұрын
Hey, I don't have this lens yet. I expect no breathing. Tokina is trying to separate itself from others by making their cinema lenses parfocal and with very limited breathing. I will be buying one for sure. I had a pre production version, so not a production model, couldn't test everything. When I get it I will do a review. Ask Tokina though, they are very open about their lens design.

How is the distortion with the 11-20 when zoomed all the way out?

The opening--over the bed shot in the film I made that I link to under the KZbin video--shows there is no visual distortion at 11mm on the RED Raven. Tested it on my Panasonic GH5 as well, it's excellent.

From 2:18 to 2:39 I'd call that a reshoot, the warp from stabilization is just too nasty for this type of work with this high end equipment(just throws everything away). Also the whole short seems under lit and multiple scenes don't seem to fit to the storytelling, which seems to expose the forced acting as well at times, but I'll put that on my taste. But the lens look nice on a red dragon.

I would love to buy a set, I think they are an all round great set of lenses that basically cover every camera. I also think Tokina will create a Super35 set, like the new little lens I show in the video. It’s just a guess.
