I'm Japanese and enjoyed watching this video, thank you for uploading it. The lecture is very nice, but there are some mistakes. 5:14 For example, the map is not correct. Osaka City is marked as Kyoto city. Kyoto is located more northeast. 8:25 Tottori City is marked as Kyoto city. I wonder why they always mistake place of Kyoto. :-/ 8:52 The center of trading rice was not Edo, but Osaka. 9:58 Peasants paid taxes by rice and the tax rate was 40%. In some cases, tax rate raised to 50%. Merchants paid taxes, but they paid taxes by cash, and were under other taxation system. 12:35 Please let me explain further. Before Edo period, armed peasants can join battle as low lank soldiers known as ashigaru with samurais. If they could get credit, they can be officially hired as samurais by Daimyo lords. But Toyotomi Hideyoshi confiscated weapons from peasants. Tokugawa shogunate took over that Hyounou-bunri (separating samurai and peasant)policy.

Thanks for pointing these errors out. This video was made around late 90s. So this is around 22 years old. I remember such lectures being telecasted on the education channel of the government on satellite Television.

@@Aeyo Thank you your response. Honestry, I regreted a little bit after posting my comment because it might sounds like nitpicking. Though this video is old, but I certify that it is a very good educational material. It reminds me history class in my highschool days.

@@kirtiyadav1910 Bakufu literally stands for the type of government system the Tokugawa Shogunate had, aka, the military dictatorship. 'Han' means h The fiefdom of those Daimyos (Feudal Lords) who were loyal to the Shogunate. If you do not understand something, you can look it up on the internet.

Mam, you are not telling the truth to your student, regarding why anti-west feeling amongst Japanese. Reason was the parasitism and digestion of the Buddhism culture in Japan by corrupt filthy missionaries who not only converted masses falsely but also waged war against the Emperor and Shogunate by capturing and isolating two islands from the rest of Japan.
