I've been listening to this song non-stop for over an hour. It's such a remarkable piece of music. Dark and mysterious. Contemporary yet timeless. I can almost hear the call of ancient nordic Gods/spirits. Eivør is a powerful singer, but her vocal delivery is also incredibly subtle and expressive. She makes me "feel" the song and allows me to connect with it on both the intellectual and spiritual level. Thank you for sharing this unique 'jewel' and for the English translation. Your channel is like a treasure box of wonderful music. So many magnificent songs and delightful compositions to listen to and enjoy..

@@HeinrichTsanov no, it's beautiful like all scandinavian music. and touches right into the hart with its pureness and simplycity. translations are a god help with some words. since i speak/read and understand quite good norwegian (both nynorsk and bokmaal) it's familiar to nynorsk and not that hard at all... it's the same langauge, but stayed more or less original on faroe islands and iceland, whilst it changed a bit at home over several hundred years...

This song legit describes the way I’m feeling and my situation right now. Metaphorically ofc. But still I feel like this song fits exactly the way I feel. Just endlessly lost and afraid and uncertain of everything
@juliamclearn8923
@juliamclearn8923 4 жыл бұрын
I completely understand the feeling! It's so hard to know the way. For me, this song helps me deal with my anger when it is other people who cause the path to be uncertain or dangerous. I don't know if you're religious, but something else that helps me is knowing that God is in control, and in contrast to the mist in this song, always has a light to guide the way, even if it is one step at a time, and gives comfort to those who are lost. If you want to, look up Psalm 119:105 and Psalm 23:4. No pressure, but I thought I'd offer the aid I have found to someone else who feels lost!
@elizabethculpepper4050
@elizabethculpepper4050 4 жыл бұрын
Julia McLearn thank you so much for your reply. I am a Christian as well. Knowing that God is in control is such a help in dark times, even tho it still can sometimes swallow you up. But it’s best to always remember that he is there, despite everything, he is there. The song as well helps me deal with the things that go on, when I feel angry or lost. It’s a beautifully written song. I hope everything goes well for you, thanks again for the reply, it meant a lot.

I first heard í Tokuni as the cover Ignea (a Ukrainian metal band, with Arab/Persian elements) did -- and it made me wonder about this song. I'm honestly surprised, and thoroughly impressed with the original. The original has a blend of Nordic, Arabic, and electronica elements that is _very_ unique -- and now I understand why Helle Bogdanova, the vocalist for Ignea, did a cover of this song. Because if I had to choose 2 words to describe this song, they would be both "haunting" and "tragic." Eivør, I am highly impressed with this song. Well done. And in case anyone is curious, here is the link to the Ignea cover: kzbin.info/www/bejne/m6Ono6ieeZl8ldk

Man denkt!

@@crown_clown No, that's the Morrigan. Irish goddess of war and death on the battlefield. She collects the souls of fallen soldiers, I believe. Morgana, also known as Morgan le Fay, is the renowned witch/magic practitioner in Arthurian legend. Alternately a wronged party or pure villain, depending on what version of the myth you go with. Her son is by Arthur, her half-brother, is Mordred, and he killed King Arthur.

The English version of this song was modified to make rhymes, but in doing so it loses most of the meaning and impact of the original lyrics translated here. The OG lyrics, as the singer mentioned in a live show, were inspired by a real experience she had as a little girl, when she actually got lost at night in the mist. Keep that in mind while reading the translation here... looking at it from the perspective of a lost little girl trying to find her way home through a misty night... brrrr, the impact is certainly a lot different.
