Hty there, ReviewTyme -- another great video as always! Chris here, and I also agree that Tokyo's Splash Mountain is the best! Among the things you didn't mention: the boats are wider than in the USA, and many of the scenes are larger / more spaced out / larger in scale. That's what impressed me most, and I also LOVED the animatronic owl in the queue. One correction, though: although the queue is primarily indoors in Tokyo, at both Disneyland and Walt Disney World, the *vast* majority of the standby queue is outdoors. If the wait is 60 minutes, which is pretty typical, you'll only be indoors for the last 10-15 minutes or so (if the Genie+ Lightning Lane is backed up, you can get stuck in that indoor hallway for a bit longer). Tokyo's indoor queues are common within both parks there. On Tokyo's cold winter days, you really appreciate it! AndTokyo's parks are the world's best and I can't wait to get back!!!

@Simon Frost - I think you’re wrong about the decade, though … as a child of the ‘70s and ‘80s, I can almost _guarantee_ you that “rap” video is *_1980s_* detritus, perhaps late ‘80s at the very latest. I was in junior high (also called middle school) when this forced, manufactured, dayglo-aerobics-dance “youth culture” style sprang up across all corporate media outlets at once. It resembled nothing any kid had ever seen or done or worn anywhere, but apparently the media giants felt it necessary to stamp out the lingering ‘70s in one quick blow and replace (or retcon?) it with this. The early 1990s is what actually _killed_ this aesthetic … at least in the real world: on t.v. and in film this faux-style lingered a while, while from ‘91 onward the real world looked more like BtVS. But this rap video is definitely ‘80s: look at the mom-jeans all the kids are wearing!!

I don’t know. The Oriental Land Company doesn’t seem like the type of company to invest a ton of money into a retheme like this. Looking at their version of Pirates of the Caribbean is proof enough of this. Removing Zip-A-Dee-Doo-Dah, as boneheaded and stupid of a move it was, doesn’t cost them anything. Retheming a major E-ticket does. If Tiana’s Bayou Adventure turns out as mediocre as what Disney has shown, then I’d doubt that the Oriental Land Company would even want to consider bringing it over to their park.

Did you really though? Then you know that the Uncle remus tales upon which song of the south is based literally are African American culture. They are the collected folk tales of the slaves and should be preserved not jim crow or minstrel shows. These tales predate them. Did you also know you are erasing the first African American man James Baskett to win an Oscar in a time when he was not allowed to attend the show to receive it? That Walt Disney himself immediately after the show drove all the way to Basketts house and presented the award personally? He did a wonderful job portraying Uncle Remus. There has to be a better way to do this than simply erasing african american culture.

The only thing racist about those minstrel songs was the lyrics. The melodies themselves aren't and are just american music.

You know how in florida you see space mountain, adventureland, and the castle from the ride? They put in effort to make sure you only see frontierland from the ride. The scenes also have different placement. The geese from how do you do are placed in laughin place and the how do you do segment has more things happening in it. There's also a scene that just contains bee hives exclusive to this version and in the ending, the gag with brer fox and bear being attacked by brer gator is placed right in front of the show boat instead of being placed after. The story just makes more sense in tokyo if you know what I mean. The animatronics and sets are also maintained to perfection. Nothing is broken and everything looks brand new despite being over 30 years old.

Didn't Tokyo Disneyland announce that they are at least getting rid of the song on the ride? Zip-a-dee-doo-da?

Disney shouldn’t change Splash Mountain at all. It’s history should be preserved as a way to show how far we’ve come.

I don't like that they have changed all the rides at Disneyland and California Adventure to something from their movies. Just makes the parks feel more synthetic than they already are.

The only reason they are changing this ride is in reaction to the George Floyd riots. Why would Japan care about any of that? It literally has nothing to do with them.
