Japanese in general don't give special treatments even if they are on vacation. It's just not our custom. I think the idea is to be fair to everyone. If a staff menber decides to let them check in earlier than the schedule, he/she would get in so much trouble. I'm not sure what happens to the person exactly but I think he/she can be fired if the staff isn't particularly a new cast member because they expect the person to know the rules. In addition to that, some hotels in Japan actually offer daytime stay in the early afternoon just to rest for a few hours and charge you a little price. So it kind of makes sense to charge them if they wanted to check in earlier. I know that Japanese are strict and can be rigid but that's what makes us organized and always on time like the precise train schedules. It wasn't that they were treated particularly badly. Please understand😌

What an awesome hotel! I think the extra charge is a bit too much but I worked in the hotel business so I understand the why. Anyways, you were In one of the most beautiful hotels ever. Reminds me of the Grand Floridian!
