It‘s so fascinating how a humans brain, personality differs so much even when two experienced similar situations. I‘ve always wondered why victims step into their abusers footsteps, since they should be the one emphasizing the most with people alike or generally people. Maybe it‘s because they don’t know any better. But what I questioned more was how people undergone of such trauma act either the one way (abusive) or the other (emphatic). I suppose that this comic expresses something which not everyone can come to grips with easily in their own lives and that’s dealing with moral compromise. A lot of young adult media isn’t willing to really accept moral compromise as a part of life, when I say that in many ways it’s an inevitability. No one stays morally pure their whole lives. Some times you’re doomed to choose between helping someone and helping yourself and no matter what you choose you will feel bad. Learning to cope with the very rational decision of choosing yourself or not helping when you can’t afford to physically, emotionally, or financially is something you will have to learn to do.

Yeah, it make sense since adult get incentives from this. Children will be obedient and easily manipulated this way, since adult will be the one who determine the right things. Not all parent want to teach this, its similar to telling "santa is not real". Good role model is needed just like the video said. Sadly, many people have to find out themself.

This is what I dislike about series like MHA and naruto (shippuden) I feel like these series do a great job setting up a very nuanced conflict, yet it all comes down to a single, morally incorruptible, perfect optimist to come along and “solve” everything.

@UN-Seki Жыл бұрын
@@pixelmaster9964true that conflicts in Naruto are solved unrealistically, but I wouldn't say Naruto is incorruptible. For one, every single time he succumbs to the Kyuubi's chakra, it means that his will weakened and he lost restraint. E.g. when he nearly becomes 9 tailed in the Pain fight, right after being unable to reply to Pain's moral conundrum. We also see Naruto getting depressed and being unable to deal with his feelings throughout Shippuden until he gets help from others (like when he almost gave up during the Asuma arc, when trying to learn the rasenshuriken). It's not like things come freely for him (well, not until the final arc with the Ashura and Indra BS). Actually, most villains die without turning to the good side, even if Naruto changes their mind to some extent. There are also plenty of relevant character losses throughout Shippuden, so it's not like there were false stakes. TL;DR: The difference between him and Kaneki is that Naruto was able to build an emotional support network in a timely manner, but Naruto's conflicts did result in concrete changes to the world/characters.

Also, since the centipede went through his ear canal, you would lose your sense of balance and feel perpetual vertigo and that's honestly just as scary as the centipede eating your brain. Counting backwards from 1000 by 7s, if you do the math, you'll make it to 300 eventually, then make it to 20, 14, 6... The final number you get to before passing 0 into the negatives is as far away from 0 as you can be without being divisible by 7 for the first time. One could also do this by doing 6s or 9s without being divisible by 1000, but since the last digit of any number will always change when counting by 7s (7, 14, 21, 28, 35, 42, 49, 56, 63, 70 and so on), it forces your mind to stay focused on the task of said math, unlike with 6s and 9s which both have very easy patterns (6, 12, 18, 24, 30, 36 and so on, as well as 9, 18, 27, 36, 45 and so on). The other possible numbers, being 8s, 5s, 4s, 3s, 2s and 1s, either have very easy patterns of doing the math, are numbers that 1000 is divisible by, or both. Whoever did this scene definitely did their homework, and it shows.

Man even just this part of the series was so much deeper in the manga than in the anime... was expecting to see this being more prevalent in the later seasons, not in season 1 :P

It’s always so very hard for me to read and watch the start of Tokyo ghoul. My mother is an extreme alcoholic and is insanely mentally abusive to me. I found myself always helping others never doing anything for myself. At the age of 19 I had my first love I was used and manipulated the whole relationship, she found small things she didn’t like about me and piled them all up to say I was the terrible person and threw me away not even 2 weeks later having a short fling with a man that she never told me about that was 16 years older than her. A month and a half later she came back apologizing for the miss communication and telling me about the thing she had that ended because “there was too much drama” I should’ve realized she was never over him. Over the next few months I fell back in love I gave her all my heart when she deserved none of it. She told me she had a conversation with this guy to clear the air with him. I told her I was hurt but that it was ok. Of course not even a week later she once again piles up multiple things on me and throws me away because of these reasons. Never love someone for their “potential” love them for their actions. I had the strength to leave and yet I stayed because I thought it was the better thing to do and everything would work out. If you never take control in life you’ll never succeed you’ll be used by anyone and everyone. This is a lesson I’m still learning I’m 20 now turning 21 soon it’s a process but I think just like kaneki I can save myself and in turn be strong enough to not sacrifice my own self respect to help the people I care for the most.

As a Tokyo ghoul fan I’m upset that the anime didn’t show what was in the manga that was important info that could’ve been shown a straight sad masterpiece none the less💯

It’s especially sad when thinking about how deeply Kaneki buried his mother’s abuse when the insane depths of torture he went through here wasn’t near enough to unearth it. Admittedly I never enjoyed Re as much as the original Tokyo Ghoul, but when I hit the chapter where that was revealed I just felt such a hollow sense of sadness. Like the one of the few bright spots in Kaneki’s life wasn’t even real, it was such a gut punch. The other part that stuck with me after the torture sequence was the direct aftermath of Kaneki’s story; it did such a good job of establishing his new status quo! There’s one panel in particular where he’s freeing his friends from their cells, and its just a shot of profound relief on his face. That conveys immediately that he still holds a deep care for others, which was uncertain after the torture of Jason we’d just seen. But then you get this whiplash of everyone being concerned about him because, well, look at him, and his gaze goes distant and he just replies ‘oh I handled it :)’. And that brings up the knife’s edge of stability he’s currently balancing on. There is this deep sadism in him now, but he’s trying to keep it on a leash with the conditional of ‘for use to defend those he cares about’ only (see: Ayato later in the arc). And of course in the back half of TG this manifests as a different form of self-destruction, as he turns himself into a monster to better destroy anything that might hurt him/his friends, and the obvious consequences of that action.

About the whole no one is coming to save Kaneki part, Touka was the only one who wanted to go and save him, but the others at the cafe told her it was a bad idea since the place Kaneki was being held is heavily guarded they thought it was better just to let him die.

Kaneki could've beaten Jason right there and alone if he wanted to, he just never wanted to hurt people bc he was soft Kaneki had no chance in hell against Nico though, Nico on another level of power compared to everybody else there around this point of the story although he pretends to be a lackey

you just got a new subscriber, tokyo ghoul is one of my all time favorite works and you delivered the events of his torture and the makings of his psyche rather well. for the longest time i related to kaneki as i had and still kind of have a bad habit of being wildly self-sacrificial, esp towards those i love. and at times, i forget that they say to win some is to lose some for a reason. we can’t always want things to be a certain way, life bitchslaps us and checks us REAL quick. therefore there’s unfortunately no such thing as having a perfectly linear moral compass. seeing this again made me come to some old revelations, and one can hope it’ll improve my character rather than sour it further. anyway, thank you for covering this piece so well. i’ll certainly be looking forward to the binging the rest of your videos
@perry.the.weirdo8 ай бұрын
it is popularly believed that kaneki’s hair turned white due to stress, which i think is a pretty reasonable hypothesis, but the manga states the actual reason. “…suppressing rc cells temporarily affects melanin production or something like that…” kaneki himself states. (:re chapter 99)
@ianmainline3030 Жыл бұрын
I don't remember exactly as it's been a while, but a lot later on in the series in the manga there's an xray or a scan of Kanekis body and it seemed implied he was also sexually tortured by Jason which just adds even more to the suffering he endured.

The thing is that the brain actually has nerves, nor does the inside of your skull. He wouldn’t feel it; the eating of his brain that is. Now burrowing in would be massively painful but the worst of it once it’s inside would be the pressure of something inside the skull moving. The centipede would also probably down, in a long damn time but eventually it would.

Yo, new here. Your coverage of this is PHENOMENAL ... I haven't read or watched Tokyo Ghoul, and I was told by a former "friend" that this manga/anime wasn't worth my time. Furthermore, that I should avoid it. Calling it just another GANTZ, or something. So I watched this blind. Now here's where shit gets real, and really really fucked up. TW/CW for child abuse. I'm a kidnapping/trafficking survivor. The woman I thought was my mom actually stole me and sold me for money for her drug habbit. This has even been corroborated by a DNA test I took this year. Now back to my former best "friend" who told me not to watch Tokyo Ghoul. Guess who this friend of mine got SUPER close with? My not mom / kidnapper / trafficker, that's who! AFTER WATCHING THIS IT'S ASTONISHINGLY CLEAR I WAS GIVEN AWFUL SELF SERVING "ADVICE" FROM A PERSON NO LESS AWFUL THAN THAT WOMAN OR KANEKI'S MOM HOLY AND THANK YOU SO MUCH FOR THIS VIDEO! I'm going to be reading this very soon...just gotta...mentally brace for where I'm about to go... seriously...I'm fucking SHOOK. I'm probably gonna be a HUGE fan this!

i love tokyo ghoul so much, it makes me so happy that it’s still relevant. one of the side characters in :re, tooru mutsuki (my pfp!) he was honestly just a big kin for me throughout the time a was reading the manga. i wish that more people would understand the depth of his character, past the “oh he’s just going crazy over their mentor” “he’s just crazy bc of the trauma” and tooru unfortunately falls into the yandere stereotype, where that really isn’t the case. i love them dearly tho. and his journey throughout his gender expression with trauma in :re makes me so sad, as i dealt with similar things (dissociation and how i dealt with traumatic things regarding my gender.) all in all, Tooru is probably my favorite character in all of manga. i may not be that active in the otaku community now, but Tooru will always live in my heart. i’m glad that TG is still traumatizing people with centipedes to this day!
