It's a well. I have lived in Tokyo for many years, but this is the first time I have found a well that is available for use.

@@britishtank1401 , thank you. It's interesting and at the same time strange to see it, in this form, in hyper modern city. It's hard to believe, that residents who lives in neighboring houses doesn't have water. So maybe it is fire hydrant? Or just simply well with healthy drinking water source? But why in the middle of the road...? 🤔 For example, in Swiss almost all big and small towns have free "wells" with drinking water, but in such "antique" look - I can't remember.

@@noname-dv5py The exact reason is unknown, but since the woman in the video is holding a pair of garden shears, it is possible that the well was left in place at the request of local residents, or that the area around the well is private land and was left by the owner. (Narrow alleys in Tokyo that cars cannot enter may be private roads.)
