Harajuku Decora Transformation

Harajuku street snap model Rikarin transforms Erisa into a decora using items purchased in Harajuku for about $50.
While in Japan for spring break, Erisa asked Rikarin to transform her into a real Harajuku decora. Rikarin has done Japanese decora style many times herself, often at Tokyo's famous Harajuku Fashion Walk event. The rules for the decora transformation were simple - all items must be purchased at shops in Harajuku and the budget was US$50.
Rikarin and Erisa went shopping in Harajuku at Daiso, Claire's, Swimmer, and San-biki no Koneko. After shopping, the decora transformation began. First Rikarin added color to Erisa's hair with extensions, decoration, and of course lots of cute decora hair clips. Next, makeup and fun face stickers were added.

They'd probably recommend just going to second hand shop / thrift shops and michaels crafts / fabric stores and making your own. It's a lot about creativity and finding yourself and although some girls would just buy a full set of Hope Chest, Milk, Vivienne Westwood, etc. the majority of Harajuku, Decora, Ganguro or Gyaryu, and Fairy-Kei lifestylers make their own and alter fashions to their own taste. If you find yourself a scan or copy or the original Fresh Fruits book you'll notice how many of them, when asked what they're wearing, put down 'second-hand' or 'handmade'. I really suggest starting with some clothes that you don't normally wear or you're tired of, and finding ways to alter and layer them to a new outfit. :) For premade accessories Hot Topic, Forever 21, H&M (like you said), and even Walmart have some things to build an outfit around.
