Leaving this here for anyone who may see it: Prof explained in his stream today that he purchased the Marvel Secret Lairs second hand from shops, he did not scalp them and neither did Whatnot. They gave him the money to purchase the items he wanted to giveaway. Neither the Prof nor Whatnot did anything to contribute to you not getting your Secret Lair. In fact, they’re trying to help you get one by giving you a chance to win it in the giveaway.

Except the secondary market is exactly why we can't buy them. Them buying 2nd hand means that those who bought the secret lairs just to resell them were justified.

@@leadpaintchips9461 the secondary market will always exist. If Prof and a handful of people refused to buy in the secondary market, it would make no difference. There will always be people buying this way; you can’t get everyone to boycott. The only way to make scalpers go out of business is if companies stopped making limited production products all together. It is just the nature of collectibles and other items of scarcity. So given all that, and accepting that we will never live in a utopia where only end users will ever buy a limited-run product and no one will ever buy as gifts or to sell, I am thankful that Prof had the idea to pick up these items and give some regular people a chance to get these for free. Don’t give him shit for “adding to the problem”. If he didn’t buy those 25, someone else would have and they would probably end up flipping them in the future too. Grumbling about it does no good other than bring good people (like prof) down.

I love jumpstart as a product and as a game format. I am one of the people who bought all the standard limited jumpstart as well as still working on collecting all the themes from original and 2022, now adding foundations to that list. My goal is to build a jumpstart cube with one of every theme across all jumpstart products.

I think it's worth having one of each of the 5 boosters from the lamer jumpstart sets for a jumpstart cube because as expanded flavor to the core experience it does add diversity. but ya as stand alone product they are no where the level of the 3 core jumpstarts

Cheers, but yeah, it's depressing. Whatnot just asked me about 5 days ago what I would like to giveaway, and I said, "hey, a lot of people didn't get Marvel Secret Lairs. I bought one set to giveaway myself, but what if we took all the giveaway funds you have and went to local game stores, bought them, and gave them to people?" It's like, me just trying to think of ways to do something cool and getting yelled at about it.

@@TolarianCommunityCollegeIt very certainly is discouraging to see some people - may they be new to the channel or not - immediately assuming the worst without any certainty. Some people prefer, generally speaking, being right about something good turning out to be bad over being wrong about something bad turning out good. Pessimism. In all fairness though, I think when a product is in such high demand and so severely limited, it is always a reasonable and good idea to clarify how one got their hands on an enormous amount it. They can't all fall off of trucks.

@@TolarianCommunityCollege I think all of the constant rhetoric in videos from creators around reinforcing that secret lairs are these elusive things that get grabbed up by scalpers is what makes people react that way when they see you have multiple to give away because most won't do the due diligence and find the context. Either way it's cool you're doing this and I'm sure a lucky few will be very happy to get them. Keep on keeping on prof

I really love the 3 peak Jumpstarts, it really help solidify why I love Magic as a whole. I got a whole box just to help teach 2 newer players how to play magic in a fun and engaging way. From 4 way melees to 1v1 with coaching. I'm also glad to see this product is also the Prof's favorite, it would be cool to mix and play with all 3 sets of jumpstart with him if I ever got a chance to see him at an lgs or a con.

The starter kit with a few upgrades is literally perfect for draft. $60ish for the starter, plus like 20 in extra foundation singles. It makes an amazing cube (I did this exact thing). Perfect for helping newer players into draft or magic as a whole.

Ive done this, its a great quick start cube and the foundations cards is the perfect set for new players, you'll need a way to identify all the cards as a lot of the packs share cards. little dot stickers worked well for me. 24 sleeved packs fits nicely in 2 bundle boxes.

Would they do two 53 card decks so they could do 4 potential commanders one of each possible color pair with that deck color? Maybe base them on themes instead of just typal like, token, life gain, spell sling...

The packs are double sealed, so I highly recommend snake drafting packs. Roll for turn order. And after each round of picks the order is reversed. (With two players it's first second second first, three is first second third third second first, etc) So still a two pack buy in, but now you can try to piece together some amount of synergy between packs. My LGS does open 3 pick two and stick with it, which also helps with making decks feel better

My friends and I have been having fun with it. It's like draft but you don't have to rely on your knowledge of the set or ability to draft on the fly. The decks just kinda work.

Love this new jumpstart. The fun themes, the joy of getting a vaulable card in a pack compared to some of the other packs out there (looking at you bloomburrow). Overall a great re-entry point and a great way to learn different mechanics of MTG

Tuned into your whatnot stream, and just wanted to say, you source quite ethically, it sucks people are being the way they are, like shops and online sellers are a thing, they also bought Secret Lairs as well..oof. Just wanted to say, you have my support and thanks! Can't wait to tune in! And 100% agree with Jumpstart being one of the best products, my friends and I just got into MTG around Duskmorn and are still learning, so we love grabbing 2 Jumpstarts from our LGS and playing!

As someone with a Jumpstart Cube, it is absolutely worth the cost. If you don't like the entire pack though, go ahead with just singles. I got a single of Aphelia to be the commander of my re-created snake/gorgon deck that I took apart last year, and Cynette for my flicker deck (jellyfish tokens!). The rest of what I got from jumpstart is now in my cube. :D

Thanks for doing this video, Professor. Jumpstart is my favorite Magic product and I am excited to collect the themes from this set. I have one theme from each of the 46 unique themes from Jumpstart 2020 and one each of the 46 unique themes from Jumpstart 2024. It will be awesome to have 138 unique themes to play with now. I am especially excited for Fun Guys, Illusions, Clerics, Dinner, Snakes, Ne’er-Do-Wells, Grave Robbers, Ninjas, and Warriors.

I am simply saying that I wanted to watch some jumpstart games and assumed there might be a shuffle up and play doing so, and there isn't, in fact I could literally only find 2 videos AT ALL where anyone plays jump start, one of them being done literally by wizards of the coast and none in the past 3 years. I want to see game play of it because I think it is a really cool format, and showing how it actually plays is a way better sell than all of the trillions of pack opening videos for jumpstart.

I got a booster box of Jumpstart 2022. I sleeved all the different themes in separate 20-card deck boxes and kept them around. I know often play with my younger nephews. It’s a really easy way to learn the game and has enough variance to keep being entertaining. I swapped out 3 duplicate themes I had for 3 new themes from Foundations. Couldn’t be happier. It’s one of the best ways to learn new players (especially young one) the basics of Magic. And Foundations makes it even easier, with its “limited” set of interactions and abilities. I could not love this set more.

I opened a Rev, Scythecat Cub, 2 Evereth, Shoofus and several of the $10+ ones. I was totally shocked each time I saw the theme and forgot what was ain a few of them which made for a nice surprise. Plan on playing them with friends and have a perfect travel box for all 24 sets to fit snug with tokens.

I pretty much started playing MTG thank to you previous Jumpstars reviews. And it's still my prefered format (as I have many friends that enjoy playing casually but don't want to invest in the game) so with a couple of boxes I can have a lot of nice casual game with the spark of an unexpected combo now and then. And it's fairly balanced too. So thank you, Prof!

I'm so glad jumpstart is back! This is what we usually gravitate towards with one of my friends when we're at a convention and only have like 30-60 minutes before the next interesting event and it'd be impossible to fit in a commander game. It doesn't break the bank either! Buy the packs at the con, shuffle up and play!

Yea, "annual" Jumpstart has always been a blast to buy, hold and play. I used to buy a box of Jumpstart and treat it like an advent calendar, cracking them as we count down to Christmas. Sadly here in SEA, the low availability of the packs had pushed prices up, not to mention a number of anime rare and mythic have obscene prices as singles. oof.

I didn't get any of the other jumpstart products before this but I've been enjoying playing this with friends. we've opened over a box and while we've hit only a couple of duplicate themes we have not hit a pure duplicate pack. as someone who's preferred play is limited I've been super happy with this product, which I find myself shocked to say about any WotC product lately.

My favorite part of the new Jumpstart packs? They work as expansions to the Foundations Beginner Box. They're honestly so stress free for players that I'm suprised there isn't a Beginner's league where people either grab card combos or select from a list like characters in street fighter.

I love JumpStart, it sits alongside my other board games like Catan and Pandemic because I treat it as a stand alone board game type thing. It's like Game Night but with more customization options and it plays decently well in a 4-player setting oddly enough.

I loved getting my kid started with Foundations Jumpstart I just wish they had a deck list on the back of the Theme card so it was easier to separate the decks back out to try different combinations. Now I have to go online find the theme deck and print out a list to keep with it seems so easy just to print in on the Theme card it doesn't need to have the standard MTG back on it.

I fully agree with the prof. Jumpstart is quick, easy and well balanced. I use it to teach my 8 year old (non English speaking) the game. The beginner box is most suitable for this because the mechanics are very basic in the packs included in that product Later on I'm planning to spice it up with regular jumpstart packs. After that Commander (ofcourse) An A grade is in place here! Thank you wizards for a great in-universe product and play experience!

Having bought a bunch of JS Foundations to battle with my son, I wish the packs had the necessary tokens! The backside of the deck theme cards would have been the IDEAL place to print the token. Otherwise, quite happy with JS Foundations.

My friends and i love jumpstart (the good kind) so i bought a box as soon as we can and we had fun. My only gripe was the luck of the box itself. Not because of "value/hits" we didnt care, but we got a bad box in terms of variety. Out of 4 green packs, 3 were elves. Half of our 6 blue packs were soaring. In 6 white packs, each had a duplicate theme (3 themes shown up). And only 3 red packs total. Its not a knock on jumpstart itself, i just wanted to get this out of my system.

I got a booster box from preorder when it was cheap and got Rev and Aphelia when I was hoping for a Scythcat Cub…so I was happy but also missed what I had wanted the most. I bought two additional packs at my LGS and one had Scytheclaw XD Foundations has been an obscenely lucky set for me for some reason

I haven't bought cards in a while but you've convinced me I need to get into this Jumpstart. My last big purchase was making a Jumpstart cube for the GF. Those set ones really sucked. If this one seems good I'm very interested.

I just cracked a box for the hell of it. Didn’t realize the price of the cards. Definitely lucked out on two scythe cats and two revs. Would have like to have seen bills though. Time to sell to my lgs and pick up Vilis!

If I can join the chorus to echo what others have said: Prof did NOT buy 25 secret lairs at launch. He did not “steal” these cards from people understandably upset by a low printing on what was a highly anticipated set of cards. He got money from Whatnot to do a cool giveaway on an upcoming stream and he used that to go to several LGS’s to buy the secret lairs and is giving them away to give folks a chance to win a set of cards nearly everyone wants but many couldn’t get. No one is saying Prof is immune from criticism but if you are going to jump on a hate train at least listen to what he said in the video and what he has clarified in numerous replies.

I never got any of the Chase Cards, but throughly enjoy getting my friends addicted to MTG with Jumpstart Packs. Gonna purchase these and update my JumpCube

Ive been hoping a good jumpstart set would come out gain. My 10yo has been wanting to get involved in a draft or prerelease event but wouldnt be able to cope with the build part. I managed to get a place for him and myself at the jumpstart event at our lgd and he cant wait.

Iconic cards and good cards aren't always the same. While I'd love to see like, lightning bolt or lord of atlantis I'd also love to see fireball. Cards that entice new players to think of ways to break them.

Like, there are so many older cards that are iconic -to me- even though their not good. Me and my friends loved auriok champion, one of my all time favs is horrifying revelation, glimpse the unthinkable is right there. But like, are they iconic to players? idk. Are they powerful? Glimpse maybe...? Being a bed or mediocre card, or worse, a decently playable card, shouldn't be the problem, it should be the norm. Give them the strong and the weird, the bad and the good. Magic isn't exclusively made of legacy staples.

My biggest annoyance with Jumpstart is having to disentangle the decks afterwards. I picked up 2 2-packs from target and wound up with the same theme in each of them, which was a bit of an annoyance

I’ve been considering buying some Jumpstart packs to play with my older brother over the holidays. He got me into Commander, but his decks are at a far higher power level than me. So, Jumpstart should bring us down to an equal level lol

It's interesting that even though Prof's pronunciation of "anime" is essentially the "correct" Japanese pronunciation, it sounds so alien to my ears because I'm used to native English speakers pronouncing it with a short "a".
