I actually tried Audible and it’s amazing. I got The Lord of The Rings and it's read by Andy Serkis, the same actor that plays Gollum in the movies. His reading is marvelous, he does one different voice for each character and is very passionate about Tolkien's work. He even emulates other actors' voices from the movies, it seems like Ian McKellen or Sean Bean are reading it too. I don't know about other audible books, but this is one is a must have.

I agree I bought a set booster box, and I legitimately felt that there was a distribution error. I pulled 2 mythics out of the box, it felt so incredibly disappointing and mediocre. Neither of the mythics were of any value either earning this set a hard pass if you enjoy cracking packs.

I got the same result. It ticked me off even more when I saw bundles ($70 less here in Canada) and draft boxes still getting the same or more mythics than mine. They also ALL had at least one ancient dragon, while I got none - only regular tasha and puzzlebox. Told my LGS about it and they mentioned how the average was suppose to be 4-5 mythics per box...*sigh*

The rares hold almost no value outside of archivist and lands. At my draft I got both archivist and a land so it was worth. But my "prize packs" had like $1 in cards lol

Yeah I spent about 300 bucks on singles from this set and that got me 7 dragons, 8 foil lands and heaps of other rares, mythics and good uncommons. I 100% wouldn't have got what I got if I had bought 2 boxes, which is what it costs in my country.

This is the set that has finally made me realize I need to stop buying packs and just buy singles. My friends and I opened up 5 set boxes between us and out of all those boxes and packs we saw only TWO ancient dragons and only TWO of the rare lands. Something definitely seems wrong with the pull rates of some cards in this set. I'll happily buy only singles though going forward for any future set after this experience.

I think the legendary slots in set booster really take up the space that you'd be seeing a land or a dragon. And none of the commanders seem really worth it- lukewarm and reliant on a gimmicky background. Really disappointing for someone who loves Baldurs Gate.

Great fun if you are drafting with friends. Otherwise buy singles, like always. If you plan to buy a box and hold it for future plans, i would wait a few weeks more for prices to drop.

I plan on buying a case since I'm sure this set is going to be really fun to draft with friends in years to come. I'm holding off for now though, as the price for a case has dropped from $599 for a pre-order to $539 right at release to $519 now (so about $87 per box). I wouldn't be surprised if a case dropped to $500 or so in the next couple of months.

I appreciate you voicing your suggestion to avoid set boosters but I’m glad I bought them. I preordered a set booster box case, because I’m a big fan of the theme, and I’m not disappointed with my pulls. Between finding party members and other memories of playing the original video games, and my set booster pulls (I got a Sensei’s Divining Top in my first set booster box) in the first half of the case I bought, I’m actually happy with my decision. I will be picking up some singles, but mainly variants from the collectors packs.

Yeah I managed to make a good blink deck (I didn’t win but I got mvp at the prerelease). The best part was I died by drawing myself out because my background drew me a card whenever my commander left or entered the battlefield, which was happening a lot.

the information in this video is a little old. value in the rare slot has developed in Archivist of Oghma, Displacer Kitten, and Black Market Connections ($15+ cards). the dragons have increased in price, and the borderless full monty foil versions of them are quite expensive if you can pull one (kind of in line with the neon art cards in kamigawa collectors), and you can theoretically get one in a set or draft box. that being said it's still pretty close to release so we'll have to wait and see

I fully approve of playing the actual limited format of this set, especially in a 4-player scenario. I've never been good at limited in the past, but this environment felt completly different from anything I've played previously and it even translated into winning a pod at my prerelease for it. Granted I never got a chance to draft the first Commander Legends set, but if the experience i got was par for the course then it is well worth the time and effort to try it out.

This past Monday I also finally opened MY set booster box. I kid you not, I had 5 etched foils that had the non-foil rare right behind them in same pack. Additionally only got 1 mythic from the actual set, and another one in my list slot for a total of two. Wasn't too splendid of a process of opening. Much like professor said, it was very lackluster experience even from the stand of just 'cracking' packs in comparison to commander legends 1...

I've never had a good experience when drafting the last Commander Legends. Something always went wrong. Here though, was actually very enjoyable and I even pulled out the win. But, as prof said, there's a goblin sized hole that I feel will be filled in double masters coming up.

FYI since release, Displacer Kitten has gone up to $14, and Deep Knome Terramancer, Archivist of Oghma, and Black Market Connections have all gone up to $17-$18 each all as normal rares. Also Herald's Horn and Skullclamp are $6-$6.50 uncommons.

Drafting this set has been really fun! bought some draft boxes at my LGS for a clean $100 presale. My buddies paid me back for the packs and we had a great time! Otherwise tho, to hell with sealed pack purchases. I'm now a singles only man. (other than commander precons, but thats a different story)

Great review of the set boosters for sure. It is so bad, that you can get 2x Bundles for $85-$90 (with a bunch of random stuff) to get 2x less set booster packs than a box that is $100-$110 and "save" $10-$20. The draft was great for our playgroup and staunch Standard drafters even had fun. I was pretty lucky in that draft booster box and got better mythic cards than I have seen out of any of my friends' set booster boxes. I am also delighted that the single prices are falling fast. Still waiting a couple weeks before picking up more lands and dragons, but happy hunting out there!

I got 6 “prerelease kits” that each came with one set booster as a “prize” booster. I got very luck on the pulls though. Two ancient copper dragons, one was prerelease promo. One archivist of oghma prerelease promo, ancient silver dragon, two displacer kittens, two battlebond lands, foil blade of selves. So I actually got all the cards I wanted that were actually worth over $1 and then I’ll just buy the rest in two weeks

I really, really, really, really wish this video had come out a week ago. I purchased a Set Booster box. I supported my local game shop who had the best price in town ($125 Vs $140 from the other two). Out of 40-ish Rares/Mythics from the box, the most valuable card I managed to crack was an Ancient Silver Dragon (regular) and a Goldspan Dragon off the List.

The numbers on 6:20 don't add up. Either there are 24 draft boosters in a box, instead of the 20 displayed on screen, or the price per pack is $5.75 instead of $4.80. - edit - At 7:35, it's clarified that there are 24 boosters, with 20 cards each. One of the ads was for CardShopLive and they were promoting Booster Crates, $100 for draft, and $115 for set, that comes with the box, 4 Path to Exile Promos, 1 Foil Path, 4 Lightning Bolt Promos, 1 Foil Lightning Bolt, a Sol Ring Promo, a playmat, two life counters, and a box with sleeves. Back in my day, you had a booster pack. the pack came with 15 cards. sometimes a foil. I recall when they first came out I thought it was cool. We also had this 75-card box come with lands too for like $13ish was kinda cool. Now it just seems like a mess, so many products so many kinds of cards foil, magic foil, super dc lsd foil fromo foil! foil foil foil oh foil;oh foil. just crazy. oh! one more thing.. our cards did not come prebent and they kept their shape. those new self-folding/ curling cards baffle me.

So if you want to crack packs, I crunched some numbers. So I looked at the rares and mythics you get in each box and then divided them further between non-legendary and Legendary rares/mythics. As I figured the Legendary rares would be the most abundant since there seem to be several slots in each pack type that they can be pulled from. And the numbers reflect that, with currently the most valuable nontreatment legend being Tasha at 4 dollars. Both Target and Walmart have loose set boosters for $8.49 in my area. My LGS sold me two for $5 each on release day, have not gone back to see if they have increased as well. Needless to say, at $8+, really easy to fight the urge of buying random packs when you get $3 in return hahaha.

bought a box of draft, its only me and one other friend so we tend to play with a limited pool where we just split the box in half and build from that, we've been doing that for about 2 years and its actually a great way to utilize the box experience. we've built some great decks from them and after playing, we add the cards to a giant pool from all the other times we've done it to build one giant super standard deck with only the cards we've cracked

I have bought a lot of set draft and collector Baldurs gate. Sure it may not be valuable but that wasn’t the reason I was buying at first. I was just getting back into the game and I was at target buying milk or socks or whatever and I bought a set booster. Inside was a ton of cards that all seemed incredibly fun and that nearly all had some interesting mechanic or flavor. Every pack was just getting me back into Commander. It was great. So I built a Baldurs Gate Commander cube and I LOVE it. 3 of every common, 2 of every uncommon and 1 of everything else plus a few additional thriving lands to round it out, I have 39x 20 card packs that I can crack anytime with friends or solo if I just want to get my deck building juices flowing. If anyone who worked on the draft environment for Baldurs gate reads this just know that your ideas have brought me joy, and that’s why Baldurs Gate is my favorite set.

This set was the first ever i decided to crack "only" a bundle (because i want those bundle boxes, was hoping for the big dungeon card XD and because i simply like cracking boosters). When i first saw that Set Booster Boxes had only 18 boosters i said...WHAT THE F...?!?! The chance to get remotely many different cards is hideous and the cracking fun is over before it began -.- It was the first set ever i decided to buy a complete set of the 361 normal art cards from my local game store instead of buying boxes. Because Wizards is just destroying cracking boosters and destroying collecting a set. Yes i think different arts are great...but not at the cost of not being able to get all of them! Far to expensive...far too less possibilities to "catch them all" (pun intended)... i love collecting and cracking boosters...but not like that Wizards...not like that :( But! yes the draft is just great! Far better than Commander Legends 1 (so they did learn something :D)

Can 100% confirm. My local GS was down to a set box when I stopped by and was cool with a net loss for the experience of opening some of the dragons for my deck. I pulled 5 commons/uncommons for them and got two minsc and boo as my only mythics. Absolutely not worth it even for the fun of opeming packs. i am so happy that i shifted to Draft displays in Midnighthunt. Before i loved getting special cards and just collect them but now that my wife is also playing magic draft displays are the way to go.

Yeah, it was strange to me that staples like Dockside Extortionist and Teferi's Protection didn't make the cut. And then, Double Masters previews began, and we found out WHERE all the Commander staple reprints ended up. It's super frustrating that WOTC split up the commander cards between these two sets, creating a number of new cards that are basically draft chaff for Baldur's Gate while using the cards commander players actually want to pad one of their overpriced Masters sets.

@6:42 it says a draft booster box contains 20 packs, however it's 24 packs with 20 cards each. The math is done with 24 tho, so the rest checks out :)

With the announced price increases in 2022 Dominaria United Draft boxes will be going for about $120 (up about 0.70 per booster from previous releases). These being about $4 per draft pack doesn't actually seem like that much of a 'premium' when you consider that the price of every upcoming standard product from now on will be going up.

On June 14th Walmart was selling the set booster for 9 in store. Prices for this set are all over the place for this set, in my area.

I'm waiting on my collector box to get here. But in the meantime, I'd like to say that I love your realistic approach to buying boxes. Thank you for telling it like it is. I feel every set that comes out, I have to ask myself the same question, "Should I buy a draft box if I'm not drafting, or a set box and end up with pretty much nothing I wanted?" I've heard the set boxes for this set are a bust. A part of me felt I should have saved my money for Double Masters 2, but as a commander lover and player, I couldn't pass up the opportunity to buy a box.

I opened a Set Box with some friends yesterday, pulled almost everything I wanted, but I was well aware that I wasn't getting my money back, still great fun to get some upgrades and start building 2 new decks

I drafted at prerelease, and can confirm it was both fun to draft and play (the prerelease promo Mirrym may have helped :D). A few of my friends grabbed set boxes, and they also saw very few ancient dragons between them.

This is the first set in 5+ years that I didn't buy a booster box for, I just got the bundle (I collect the dice) and commander packs. With the increased cost per pack, the alternate art style (D&D manual style) not being something I like, and there only being a handful of cards I might actually want for commander that would actually cost me any meaningful amount I just couldn't justify it. This is definitely a VERY disappointing set, especially since I really liked AFR and commander legends 1. I created a digital version of MTG so I could continue playing with my playgroup during covid and with WotC constantly lowering the value of their products while simultaneously increasing prices they are making it harder and harder to want to return to physical magic especially since we can now play for free (though we have a gentleman's agreement that we don't play with cards we don't own or at least that we wouldn't be willing to buy).

11:00 Well said. Not opening a busted $30 card might be disappointong at first, but it's better for the game as whole. Still, it sucks that all the new cool cards are effectively hidden beyond a $7-per-pack paywall. If i'm not mistaken, CL1 sold for about the same price as standard set, so...

Certainly wish I followed the professor when this set came out! I got into mtg when forgotten realms came out and was excited for baldurs gate and spent money on a couple boxes when I should have spent the money on singles for the set!

Just getting into magic and picked up a draft box to make a cube. I opened a few extra packs and nothing of value, but it looks like you can draft a great, cohesive deck from this set.

Pro tip for your future draft experience! Use Roll20 to create a digital map out of the Undercity card and throw that map up on a screen at your table. You can move your players through and make the Initiative mechanic a little easier to handle across your play group. If you're feeling even cooler, you can have your players take a pic of their commander, send it to you, and put them in the map! Also, you might want to find a way to incorporate a "Who's got the initiative" chart.

A lot of people are talking about the low pull rates on the dragons but there seemed to be a fair amount of them floating around at my LGS's pre-release. Hell, I even drafted two of them myself, silver and bronze (and a Battle Angels of Tyr).

I picked up a bundle and has an issue where I would pull duplicates in several packs. Kinda soured the experience and I definitely agree with your set booster evaluation. Then I pulled a ancient gold dragon out of one of those dumb collector booster throw ins in one of the commander decks. Definitely felt like a rug pull lol.
