here's a link to download my mountain images (plus all the other textures I make in the full video series). adventuresinmapping.files.wordpress.com/2024/02/onestyletorulethemall_assets.zip if you just can't get enough fantasy mapping, and would like to draw maps from scratch, check out Wes Jones' channel, "Fantasy Mapping" www.youtube.com/@FantasyMapping

I don't have this program, but these two videos have been such a joy to watch. Thank you. I am looking forward to parts 3 and 4, and future content as well! Going to watch some of the older videos too.

wow, thanks so much! kind of you to say. i am glad you enjoy.

@@JohnNelsonMaps it's a pleasure! I came across the forest video looking for ways to draw/make scenery tiles for a hexmap; either a way to fill a selection or just a hex shaped tile to copy. Your tutorial specifically won't work for me but your voice is so nice to listen to and the content so interesting I enjoyed it a lot and it inspired me. Your Photoshop forest & mountain images are probably similar to how I'll do it. Or maybe there's a way to make a brush out of something like it for GIMP.

@@Faanvolla thanks Faan! actually, applying these landscapes to a hex map would be pretty cool. i've seen similar done before to great effect. enjoy your project, and thanks for your kind encouragement!

Love this series! As a gis analyst working in a sciency sector, I can't help but sneak some artistic flair like this into my maps. Not that it matters to the purpose of the video, but as an Australian, I cant help but wonder what data are you using? I know the coastline of australia when i see it but i dont think we have that much forest 😅

good eye! i'm using the "RESOLVE ecoregions" layer from Living Atlas. i just grabbed a useful shape for this video. but i go into more specifics about the data in part 4: kzbin.info/www/bejne/i2SyeINvfdWjebssi=hfJYTupj0ysbuag-

Hi! This is GREAT! Thank you for putting together!! I'm trying it out and the mountains just don't look right... It seems like the symbols aren't scaling to my extent and seem to not be filling the entire polygon? i.e they look too big?
@JohnNelsonMaps5 ай бұрын
@@kathrynfiducia5532 you can adjust the mountain size. Whatever looks best for your resolution and screen size. Also, if there are holes or bays in the polygon the graphics will avoid them.

Can you share/use this style/layer in ArcGIS online?
@JohnNelsonMaps9 ай бұрын
good question. there are elements that aren't supported, so i'm not sure how it would look as an AGO style.
