True, I bought RYO Boots from Spartan Pro Gear somewhere in 2017. I had used it occasionally for much period and was in storage for a long time. last month when i took it to long road trip, in hot weather, after 300 kms the sole totally came off in one boot and the another was about to. I had to search for a cobbler and get them stitched on the way . Took 2 hours to get this done. So strongly advise, when we buy boots get it stitched as precaution because these adhesives give up, if stored in cupboards for many months.
@TollFreeTraveller3 жыл бұрын
Stitching is possible only in some cases. But, yes, boots that have stitched soles tend to not have that particular problem.

Very very useful video Ro. Bikers should think twice before ordering apparel online. I never order anything I can’t try / feel / experience. Deals apart . All biking companies outsource their apparel. Don’t really have a production unit. The Triumph boot you used I think were the alpinestars corazols. In tamizhl we have what’s called as “aadi kalivu “ meaning the shedding of products during the tamil season of aadi. It was so demeaning to their selling product that they renamed it “aadi thallupadi” or end of season sale. This was the time that allowed them to sneak in an old stock.the issue with a long term shelved boot is that for the super adhesive holding the sole and the upper it needs constant pressure on them to keep them bound to the upper. Heat/weight keeps them together. We have seen our fathers stick our notebook bindings and put another heavy book on them overnight. Same goes with these. When we give our shoes to Dr pronto he sticks them and puts them in a lathe kinda apparatus overnight to seal. That said we are always looking for deals. And India is I’m sad to say is a dumping ground for the international biking Brand’s poor moving stock. All the dealers of HD are protesting now not just cause of the “rude” exit from India but also with all the residual global stock of apparel/accessories they were forced to stock as part of their dealership deal. There are plans for a massive sale to push all residual stocks dating back to 2018. Nothing wrong in taking advantage of a sale. But be mindful of 1.comfort /fit / experience. Try it walk /wear if your bike is around sit on it for at least half hour to observe it’s manners 2.manufacturing date/year- you don’t find the tags ditch it ASAP or look for the bar codes on the backside of the tongue 3.physically examine for small air pockets at the linking points of sole and upper 4.fasten and unfasten Hard a few times to weak rivet points 5.smell the leather-if it smells of fungus it’s time to ditch..a single season fungus smell will dissipate come summer. But a long term one has allowed it to seep deep into the leather .Remember folks leather is curated skin and what will happen to your skin on long term exposure to moisture..it will shrivel/shrink/chapp 6.even if it’s a non sale product look at the dates/place of production (Cambodia products reach us faster). I did pick some brilliant gloves and apparel from BMW in this sale. So go out there and get the best of the deals. And thanks Ro for this timely video as this is the season to be jolly with all the Thi Gs on sale. Ride safe and god speed boys n girls
@TollFreeTraveller3 жыл бұрын
I own some other pieces of gear from triumph and they have been brilliant. Courtesy their tie ups with reputed brands and the sale I have been able to get some great deals on very good gear. These boots were bound to have a limited life, but served well when they did. No regrets. But you're right that one needs to be cautious while buying older boots at least. If the deal is good, it might still be worth it.

Thank you for talking about this topic. I have always told my friends to change the armor in their riding jackets and the pads in their helmets atleast once a year since a "good" use will wear and tear them. That obviously extends to other riding gear bits like for example you covered about your old shoes literally falling off. I hope that you do expand this bit to other gear as well.

This is not just with riding boots but applies to any leather gears. I recently bought BBG gloves on sale, but they openly stated that there is an issue with the touch leather and it will not be covered in the warranty. Just like your case, because they gave me a 50% off I went ahead and bought it thinking even If they last for 6 months I am fine with it. But just after a days' use, the touch leather came off completely. With COVID lockdown, leather storage turned out to be an issue everywhere and that caused such deterioration in product quality. For anyone who is looking to buy such gear, it is good to ask about this beforehand. ANything on sale is something you should buy only if you are okay with losing it.

I think perfomance racing store in mumbai are still selling these at 17k on their website but ya no idea about their manufacturing date. Anyways great buy & happy riding 🤘🏻

I have to disagree. My riding boots are old, probably between six and ten years and have seen a lot of miles. The leather, the sole and the stiching are still in good order, the boots are still waterproof (Goretech). My year old gloves on the other hand are already deteriorating, poor quality like your Triumph boots. But great video, as ever.

We all think that bike is mainly what we need and we started saving up for it. Eventually realise that the touring mods needed + safety gear + decent camera gear for vlogs + fuel (as of current "ache din"), you'd eventually have to sell your other kidney as well 😅
