I moved to Taiwan from the U.S.13 years ago--my first time working and living in another country. I've grown to love my life here and the Taiwanese people; I've learned a new language and have made new friends. I'm a permanent resident now and plan on retiring here. Visiting is awesome, and although living here isn't for everyone it's certainly doable for those who have an open mind and a sense of adventure.

Yes, Taiwan's economic growth is much slower than Chinese mainland, that's the main difference.
@twunica3 жыл бұрын
Perhaps China’s economic growth rate is impressive, but it is still an autocratic country. In the name of socialism, it is more capitalist. The gap between the rich and the poor is wider and the mutual trust in society is lower. The degree of China's oppression of human rights is absolutely far ahead of Taiwan. 或許中國的經濟成長速度傲人,它依然是一個專制獨裁的國家。打著社會主義的名號,卻更資本主義。貧富差距更大、社會互信更低。中國壓迫人權的程度更是絕對遠遠領先臺灣哦。

@@twunica I strongly recommend you to come to Chinese mainland and live for a while before you make such silly statement. So your statements are ridiculous but at least you can say them here where it is free, my statement is not allowed in China, it is censored, just like the phrase Winnie the Pooh, or June 4th or Tiananmen Square, as you know very well. Nice video! There’s a reason that Taiwan is not on top of the list. The culture is mixed. There’s nothing that really stands out on paper. You have to stay for a period of time to feel the unique experience. It’s just hard to promote tourism. As a Taiwanese I myself haven’t even been to some of the places in the video, but I’ve been to a lot of other countries. These places was just not as attractive on paper. Therefore with the same expense, Taiwan is hardly top five Pickford anyone. Here in Taiwan, you have to immerse in the experience and that takes time, but hopefully our food with the right advertising can attract more people.

I have to say, it's excruciately unpleasant when one regards Taiwan as the same as China. Yes - culturally and linguistically speaking (and in some other aspects), People in Taiwan and in China do share similarities, but at the same time, are vastly different in their own ways. Saying Taiwan and China being similar is like saying modern Germany being similar to Nazi Germany. Sure, they are ethnically the same people, speak the same language(s), live on the same soil, and more. But at the same time, they are also on the two very ends of the spectrum, and couldn't be further different from each other. For one is democratic, and the other is of a totalitarian regime. Personally, I still want to thank you for what you're doing - showing and exposing Taiwan to more people. A lot of your videos, showing other countries, are also breathtakingly mesmerizing! But, the blatant comparison made by some of the interviewees kind of leaves this one a tad unimpressive.

Don't be blinded and biasd and brainwashed by fake or twisted news in green media in Taiwan, come to visit Chinese mainland by yourelf someday, and you'll find people there are just as nice as people in Taiwan.
@benicio_k3 жыл бұрын
@@goodclark707 it truly shows just how clueless you are by the comment. No one says people in China are not nice - I grew up in Australia, and some of my oldest mates are from China; I will say they are some of the nicest folks I've known. However, the problem with China is not with its people, but rather the party in power. Chinese Communist Party has established a totalitarian regime for as long as the last 70 years. Over time, it has gradually worsened the fabric of soft power amongst its own people. Not to mention, the whole thing has drastically deteriorated after Xi came into power. When people don't have the free rein to develop into what they're meant to be - that's how you kill culture. On the contrary, everyone in Taiwan, including visitors, all have the the freedom to criticise any governing bodies without being persecuted. People don't worry about being charged on falsehood, or fear injustice imposed upon them. What people have in Taiwan - things as fundamental as these - are not guaranteed in China under the ruling of the CCP. There is no part of me thinks Chinese people are bad, but when one is not allowed to speak their mind freely and subscribe to any beliefs they want, it really chips away the person - parts of you are taken away little by little until you become this creature that only knows how to regurgitate whatever the man in power spits in your mouth - that's what has happened in China. And please, calling something 'fake news' doesn't make it less factual. Just because something you don't register to, doesn't make it false. All you have achieved by calling others 'fake news' is telling people how much of a joke you are. And by all means, I am not saying everything you will read in Taiwan is of facts, but at least, people in Taiwan have access to tools and platforms for fact checking - that's another 'luxury' people living in China do not have. If you still don't get the point, then all I can offer is 'good luck with yours'. At least, you are a mere random encounter I don't need to deal with any longer.
@goodclark7073 жыл бұрын
@@benicio_k Thank you for your long response, at least you're willing to communicate. I'm very familier with your views. but all what I see is the old "good and evil" narative, full of concepts but no real experiences. please allow me to point out your two mistakes. First, you don't know today's China. obviously you've never been to China, all you know about China is told by propaganda of western media. China may be like what you said 50 years ago, but not anymore today, if China is still like what you said, it's impossible for it to achieve such fast growth and set to become the world's largest economy in 10 years. I strongly recommend you to come to China to experience the fast change of Chinese society by yourself or make some Chinese friends who was born in China after 2000 and hear their views. then it's less likely you'll be cheated by some western media that deliberately fabricate fake news demonizing China. Second, you don't know today's Taiwan. I strongly doubt you've never been to Taiwan or you can only read English media but know nothing about Taiwan's Chinese media(yes, people in Taiwan regularly speak and write Chinese). if you can read Chinese, you'll find Taiwan is full of "green terror". when somebody says he tends to be a Chinese, he'll be bullied and not allowed to talk. Zhongtian tv station and many media supporting China are banned by DPP and history text books are tampered and distorted by DPP trying to cut the deep ethnical and cultural tie with Chinese people. DPP has done these just in order to consolidate their ruling in Taiwan. That's so called freedom of speech of DPP: you can say anything you like when what you said is in line with DPP's view, or you'll be banned. For me, DPP is more like the hypocritical and timid dictator in the '1984'. if you still can't get my point, then all I can offer is "good luck with yours".

Most people know that Taiwan is not recognized by the UN as a country but PRC is. Taiwanese are absolutely friendly to the English-speaking expats coz they are so obsessed with ENGLISH despite of one's color or western countries you come from and of course those expats or tourists who come to spend their money in the island even the tourists from communist China. They rather have an English tutor from any western country or any color of your skin EXCEPT the Chinese looking teachers even you are the ABC Chinese. They actually hate the non-Taiwanese Chinese whom they are the same origin. AND they are so obsessed with the western English-speaking people because they are suffering from language and racial inferiority complex. They consider themselves as the first-class Chinese besides the Hong Kong people whom both of them can't even speak proper Mandarin Chinese which is the soul of a nation. Secondly, they think that they are more protected and secure only if they are being friendly to the white people such as the US, the UK and other European countries. They are the mutant Chinese who possess only less than a hundred years of historical, cultural and political background as compared to the PPC of Mainland China which has more than 5000 years. And they totally reject the using of the simplified Chinese writing and the unified Chinese language which is actually the transformation of the traditional one and being recognized by the UN as one of the six international official languages out of political reasons like Hong Kong. They claimed themselves to be an independent country and has nothing to do with PRC, but the historical fact is both PRC and Taiwan claim to be the ONLY CHINA after Taiwan was defeated in the civil war of China and was exiled or retreated to Taiwan island with the loots of hundred thousands of China made artifacts and antiques which were the sweat, blood and tears of the Mainland Chinese hard labors and now still displaying in the National Museum of Taipei. And both parties swear to unify each other on any cost, but after the uprising of the PRC and the outcast of Taiwan from the UN, the Taiwanese people complain to the world that it is being suppressed, bullied by the PRC. And yet it is openly believed and supported by most of the anti-China nations including India and Japan who are the big neighbor countries which ironically Japan massacred and murdered hundred millions of innocople on earth and most of all the Chinese from Mainland China and Taiwan.
