@Marbles471Ай бұрын
@@scoutart1508 I'm unclear on the details, but unless I'm remembering wrong, apparently Rhapsody Rabbit was a bit further along in the production process than Cat Concerto was when Hanna and Barbera accidentally found out about it, and as a result they rushed production on Cat Concerto in order to finish theirs first. But even though they finished first and submitted it for Oscar consideration before Friz Freleng could finish Rhapsody Rabbit, it wasn't actually released to theaters until the following spring. Freleng was pissed about being beaten to the draw, but. as far as I'm aware, he, Hanna and Barbera never accused the other of ripping them off --- they all agreed it was just an amazing coincidence.

The most impressive part of this cartoon to me is not only were they able to create a fairly balanced and engaging battle with such a limited premise, but they did it with seamless transitions and no breaks in the music. It looks effortless here, but writing a continuous scene like this for 7 minutes straight without making it boring, repetitive, or gimmicky takes some considerable talent, let alone the effort put into animating it.

I'll admit that I've always enjoyed Rhapsody Rabbit a bit more as a child because I saw that one more often on TV, but honestly, this short is also a masterpiece. I love the classical music centered Tom and Jerry shorts, such as Tom and Jerry in the Hollywood Bowl and Johann Mouse. My favorite gag in this one is Jerry trying to cut Tom's finger with a pair of scissors. Also the bit where Jerry starts gleefully playing "On the Atchison, Topeka and the Santa Fe" much to Tom's annoyance. The ending is classic where Jerry keeps trolling Tom.
