I certainly recognise his genius. Tom is one of the musical greats, in my book, and the Thompson Twins are one of the best bands of the 1980s. Tom has an incredible musical ear, and an ability to create and arrange different sounds and musical motifs in such an intelligent and original way. Into The Gap is a masterful album that will stand the test of time, and songs such as Hold Me Now and Doctor! Doctor! will be with us always. The production on these tracks is perfectiob, and could not be bettered, in my opinion. 👌🎶🎸🎹

Tom Bailey's appeal is his humility. In a business of obnoxious egotistical jerks Tom stands out as one who recognizes his talent yet is modest enough to not flaunt it. Tom Bailey always was the "Thompson Twins" and without his gift the band would have never went anywhere.

Tom is certainly modest. We met NZ band stellar* backstage and we were talking to drummer Andrew. He told us you know Tom has sold all these millions of records but he never really talks about his success. He's modest? I asked. . Very modest Andtew replied.

Nah, he might have been the musical creativity but he needed Alannah as inspiration and artistic flair and both of them needed Joe Leeway to balance things out. If you ever listen to Big Trash or Close to the bone...actually dont listen to either one of those. Pretend they never happened. they needed Joe!
@FeedbackPete14 жыл бұрын
@@voiceofraisin3778 they did have a well known three way chemistry and Tom and Joe did add something to the band. Alannah may have slated Close To The Bone in the past but Perfect Day is just that perfect. The dub mix of Get That Love although not on the album is awesome and I love Big Trash. Alannah seems to have no interest in getting back with the band and that's fair enough she's moved on and is doing other things. But when talking about Tom's live set up now with female backing musicians she talks like they are imposters. She says that nostalgia is overrated. I said to her on Twitter I've had some amazing times traveling around to Tom's gigs and meeting fans. She replied I'm glad you've had a good time but it's not the real thing baby. Well seeing as you have no interest in coming back to the band it's as close to the real thing as I'm going to get so I'll take it. What am I supposed to do? Not go to the gigs because she's not on the line-up. And Tom's new musicians play really well. There isn't a Thompson Twins album I don't like. I just like some others more.

It's funny how the Twins have always down-played their success and its influence on fans over time. They've always said that they never deserved their success and there have always been a ton of haters, including fellow musicians from their own genre. I've always believed that the Thompson Twins were...and still are...way under-appreciated and not given nearly enough respect. I've always loved their music and a song like "Hold Me Now" has stood the test of time long after the majority of their haters have had their own music drift away into obscurity.

Stumbled here...one of my favorite bands....loved the percussion instruments used. I've been resurrecting my vinyl collection on a Technics Sl-D1 with an old audio-technica PB33E (like a AT12XE) and recently bought a ATN12XE stylus but the first one just didn't bring out the sounds as expected...the replacement stylus after a while, started bringing out the instruments. My goto song to know if I'm hearing what I am supposed to hear is this song, particularly the first few bars, with what I think is a cabassa (could be a metal Güiro) and the hi-hat intro. I had the pleasure of seeing you guys in the 1980s in Miami...what a show. Thank you Update: Looking at the video it seems she is playing a metal Güiro...all this time I thought it was a cabassa
