It'd nice to hear about a time when ppl sacrificed and served. Today, kindness, thoughtfulness and serving others seem to be dying arts.

Loved hearing what Tom Brokaw had to say! Every generation has difficult obstacles to overcome. The "greatest generation" had strong values about family, God and country. We need to restore American values so our children are protected from drugs, gangs and violence. We are moving in that direction!

This is why I find the character of Steve Rogers/Captain America so fascinating. Take someone from the 40s, freeze him, and wake him up today. What's changed? What hasn't?

If WWII were fought today, no doubt we'd lose. The selfish citizens of this country, won't even wear a mask to get a pandemic in check. Go to war? "What's in it for me?!?!".

Why do so many people have to make negative comments about so many different things that are posted online? WWII was started by the Japanese and Germans, the allies had no choice but to fight. I think that many young men who were drafted "rose to the occasion" and took up the challenge - they took responsibility. We all must"play the hand we're dealt. My father and his high school pals didn't want to be heroes, but he' s told me several times that he and his classmates just naturally thought they were supposed to enlist. My dad used his time in the service to further his education. I think that many of those who grew up during the Depression wanted to give their kids the things that they couldn't have as kids. Many over did it and didn't set limits on their kids' actions.

Mary so many American are unpatriotic and in my feeling should be held on treason. They don't know the history and don't care. These millennials are looked upon as the biggest loser generation. I'm proud that my grandfather served 8 years in WWII and in panama. So don't worry about this scared frighten people who are spineless. Did your family serve in the war, let me know

Mary, I totally agree. The negative people would shit their pants if they were landing on Normandy Beach and bullets were hitting their boats before they even got off. Talk about a holy shit moment. And to push threw that is nothing but incredible.

Tom Brokaw's speech is also very interesting. I love to listen different speeches, or different views in order for us to learn more about everything to know more about the past and present, in order for us to realize that how lucky we are and why do we have to cherish what we have for other people to dream for by our own understanding and appreciations the importance of our country's own foundations and constitutions as well as the unity as one nation under God by our own America's patriotism and loyalty and principles. Actually, Americans had very hard lives since they established the United States of the America by our own Founding Fathers's tremendous sacrifices by their own efforts of the life and deaths. Peoples worked very hard as tough as it could be until they gradually established the strong economy and defense capabilities by our own foundation and constitutions. Our country's own foundations and constitutions have truly. made America become the strongest and most civilized country of the Capitalism system of the liberty and entrepreneurship and constitutions by their own hard workings. I believe we are very lucky to be able to enjoy our country's own foundations and constitutions as well as the prosperity, safety and the unity of our country. This is why I believe we must learn the spirit of the cherish our own unique foundations and constitutions as well as others' services by the principles of our country's own foundations. Appreciate our country's equality of the opportunities instead of the equality of the property of the ideologies of the Communism systems by envying. We must appreciate our Founding Fathers's intentions and wishes to establish the foundations and constitutions to protect and defend our country's own Capitalism system of the liberty and entrepreneurship. We must cherish everythings our country established earlier for us to enjoy without worrying now. Because this is America of the Capitalism system of the liberty and entrepreneurship and constitutions, so we will be able to enjoy our country's own liberty and entrepreneurship as well as the loving-kindness spirit and unity. Only America will treat everyone the same benefits and same equality of the opportunities with each other altogether. This's why we must work hard and cherish our own foundations, constitutions and unity always for the better future. Because America can be great due to our own foundations and unity. When America is better, Americans will be able live better and help others better.

You guys are so disrespectful...These men and women risked their lives for you. They made it so that we could live in a safe world with our freedom. They bled their guts out to so we could be free, think about that. We owe everything to them. 60 million of them died. And that's not good enough for you. Shame on you.
@sainter18 жыл бұрын
+Esther Stoneking No they didn't. Sorry but you sound like an American Legion pamphlet. They were drafted into the armed forces; they had no choice! Not a single one of them went to war thinking about freedom and future generations, they were forced to go and just wanted to get the hell out of there. The "greatest generation" thing is a gross exaggeration of that generation's worth. I'm not saying we shouldn't be grateful that they fought well and with courage, but they didn't willingly "sacrifice" their lives at all.

SainterSan My old man and most of his brothers volunteered in WW2. Uncle Buck came back insane the rest of his life to the point he hurt people. Dad never would get on a cruise ship or other seaward vessel after the pacific until he died. You clearly know nothing if you say all of them were drafted.
@sainter18 жыл бұрын
James Barnes Fair enough. I should have said many were drafted. My old man was in WWII as well. However my main point still stands, these things that happened to the "greatest generation" were basically forced on them but I don't think when it came to changing the nation socially or culturally or even politically they did much at all - the nation changed in the 60s. You can argue about it of course but there you have it. Sorry to hear about your Uncle Buck.

Every generation has it's blessings and obstacles.The Greatest Generation,even the minorities,were focused on God,Country and family as a result of the 1930's Great Depression.Suffering can do that to a generation to make a country great.The Vietnam Era , the 1980's ,2000's and presently show a decade of liberalization and a me,me,me attitude and only few young people in serving their fellow man,woman,Country and sacrifice.These few young people are a small significant breed in a giant economic gap of the rich,middle class and lastly the poor.Jesus Christ said you will be blessed if you bless the poor.Let's bless the children,youth and families and good people...and be tolerant and respect everyone.
