Tom Clancy's Splinter Cell "Nuclear Plant" PCSX2 (PS2 exclusive mission)

Nuclear Power Plant, Kola Peninsula, Russia (PlayStation 2 exclusive): Fisher infiltrates the Russian power plant, only to find it under the control of Grinko's mercenaries protecting the microwave relay. Despite this, Fisher makes his way through the building, and initiates a false meltdown alarm, which forces most personnel to evacuate, allowing Fisher to move around easier. However, the troops remain and even gun turrets have been set-up. Nonetheless, Fisher gains control of the microwave relay, allowing the NSA to finally locate Nikoladze. Fisher leaves the building via the plant's private train - but to their surprise, the mercenaries are also using the train to transport nuclear material, possibly to create nuclear weapons.

I remember raging on this mission because I kept getting 3 alarms and didn't know why. Now I know it was because the game does a scan for bodies in lit areas regardless if you killed everyone in your path.

It's amazing how you can see design principles that later came into Pandora Tomorrow in this bonus mission. Why did they include this as a bonus mission? It ties up loose ends in the first story. A lot.

Ubisoft did a lot of weird decisions, like developing two completely different games for Splinter Cell Double Agent.

I wouldnt be able to do what Sam does. Primarily because most of the time when he asks Lambert a question, he gets hit with "We'll worry about that. You do your mission."

Wish Ubisoft would have made the Nuclear Plant level a bonus level for the PC platform...would of liked to stealth through this level like the other 3 bonus maps I did on my Facebook Stream.

The playstation 2 versions intro is so bizarre and mission impossible-tier, but the nuclear power plant level somehow contradicts how bizarre it is? I don't get it. The PC version is def the best storywise.

i played the xbox so i never heard of this mission until only yesterday...not sure why it was not included on xbox??

Sony wanted it to be PS2 exclusive

In order for SC1 to work on PS2, they had to chop the Xbox version a lot. Smaller level split in more chunks with less general clutter or geometry all throughout, with less visuals etc. To offset for the more or less smaller and lesser game, they offered an additional cutscene in the opening and an additional level. This was mostly due to PS2's popularity. GameCube was faster than PS2, but still slower than Xbox. They decided to pretty much port the PS2 version to GameCube, which offered: higher rez, progressive scan and more stable FPS, but omitted the PS2 exclusive level. At any rate, playing both the OG Xbox AND PS2 versions of Splinter 1/2/3/4 is definitely a fascinating experience. For replays, I'd advise for the GameCube versions emulated on Dolphin, given the GameCube just looks better and runs way better than the PS2 emulated versions (they need the heavy OpenGL blending option to allow for working shadows on the PS2 ports)
