Just so we remember full history, Harry got hurt in the preseason game against Detroit with a grade 2 ankle sprain and was on IR for the next 9 games. Not saying he would have been AJB or Deebo (or any of the other awesome WRs in that class), but if he’d even been a decent WR2 we don’t have Brady furious at Phillip Dorsett-types and we’re not sending a 2nd round pick for Sanu-who also got injured). It’s easy to rip on Bill the GM as his recent track record was bad, but it’s also an easy take to point to this alone.

Bill would have been gone years ago if not for a lucky draft picking up Tom. Without Tom, Bill was 5-13 and then Tom took over and the rest is history. I will never forgive Bill and Kraft for how they treated the greatest QB every, Tom was a class act and played on the cheap for years. Bill actually thought he could win without a top QB. Tom was the reason all of Bills on the cheap moves worked. It's over and I am looking forward to getting a respectable team back on the field on Sunday. Defense is important but you can't win if you can't score.
@StephenPaul11608 ай бұрын
Bill thought he could win without Brady because if you look back and whenever Brady wasn't on the field they won more often than not. The year Brady got hurt - Cassel stepped in and although it wasn't an amazing year, Cassel played well and some even thought they should move on from Brady at that point. Then when Jimmy G and Brissett filled in during Brady's suspension they won 3 of 4. From Bill's perspective and I think just about anyone else, it wasn't going to get as bad as it got. Newton's year had some promise, but turnovers took them out of so many games. Mac's rookie year had a lot of promise. Ultimately I believe that Mac's injury made him play more scared and Patricia/Judge ruined any confidence he had.

@@TrainFloodthe product has been bad and boring for the last few seasons. It wasnt the fact that they were losing it’s the fact that they were flat out boring television. If they were losing high scoring shootouts that would be one thing, or if they drafted stars or signed big name free agents to give the fans something to watch for, like other bad teams atleast have stars on offense that gives the fans jerseys to go buy. The patriots have been dull and boring struggling to score 10 points a game. I watched 3 games this season lol. It was just boring football. Kraft knows that the ratings are plummeting, in Belichicks last game which was the season finale not even half the tickets were sold..before it didn’t matter how bad the weather was, everybody showed up. Also Belichick sabotaged this team, and sabotaged them against the eagles costing Brady what would of ended up being his 8th Super Bowl in his best SB performance ever “505 passing yards, 3 passing tds”.. But nope Belichick just had to bench Butler in the biggest game of the season. I’ll never forgive him for that, for what he cost the great Tom Brady. If Belichick would of signed big name WRs in Brady’s prime Brady would of probably had 6-7 MVPs and atleast 10 SBs. Think about it, Brady got to play with a star WR while in their primes just a few seasons in his career, 2007 with Moss when he had 50 passing touchdowns and went 16-0, than in Tampa with Mike Evans when he was in his mid 40s having back to back 40+ touchdown seasons, year one in Tampa 40 passing tds and 4650 yards, year 2 in Tampa at 44 years old 43 passing tds and 5316 yards being voted the best nfl player on the NFLs top 100 players list. Just imagine if he had that talent on the outside to throw to while in his prime in his mid 30s? We would of seen 60 td, 6000 yard seasons..

@r.williamcomm76938 ай бұрын
Belichick did well in Cleveland until 1995 when Modell announced that the team was leaving. Belichick also held the 2018 Rams to 3 points after they averaged 30 per game on the season. Brady is the GOAT but Belichick’s defenses from the 1990 Giants beating the Bills, to the 1996 Pats going to the Super Bowl (Bill’s first year back) to holding the 2001 Greatest Show on Turf to points that allowed Brady to show the world why Belichick benched the highest paid QB after injury to make Brady starter plus so many masterpiece games that put the Pats in position to win on the last drive were excellent coaching. No coach gets that many wins being average.
@rgonz818 ай бұрын
@r.williamcomm7693 did well? What game were you watching? The Browns were a premium franchise until Bill took over and had a losing record in 4 out 5 years, pushed out their franchise QB and ultimately got the team moved to Baltimore. Ozzy Newsome had to complete rebuild that team which took a few years
@r.williamcomm76938 ай бұрын
@@rgonz81 He took over a 3-13 team (Bud Carson fired) in 1991 & improved it until they were 11-5 in 1994 & beat the Patriots in the Wildcard. The next season was the announcement of moving. Watch Cleveland 1995 Football Life episode. No coach was winning that year. I remember the games well from those years. I remember Belichick beating Chuck Noll’s Steelers in 1991 too with excellent coaching. It was Noll’s last season. There’s been Hall of Fame QBs who didn’t win championships because they didn’t have a coach who played complimentary football or just the way the ball bounced that season. Belichick’s teams were flexible & dominant & won lots of low scoring, tight games. That’s not taking away from Tom Brady. Obviously Belichick doesn’t get a lot of those wins without Brady being clutch. But Belichick made the game plans that gave his teams the best chance to win even if they couldn’t win. That’s what a coach does. He’s lived NFL football since the 1970s. Even his decision to keep a 4th QB on the roster in 2000 kept Brady when most teams would’ve cut him. By the next season Brady had worked his way up to number 2 & ran that offense exactly as it was designed by Earhart-Perkins. Belichick knew that he had the QB who saw the game the right way & would always be dependable. Brady deserves lots of credit but Belichick deserves credit for putting a system & culture in place. Just watch the last plays of the Super Bowl where they beat the Seahawks & how Belichick set up the play where Butler made the interception & then told Brady to draw the Seahawks defense offsides to get some breathing room to avoid a safety. Belichick doesn’t have his face buried in a play sheet. He watches the game, coaches the coaches & gives his team the best chance to win. Even the best coaches have downturns without talent. But I’ve watched the games & attended games where the Pats were the away team. I’m a Steelers fan & Belichick & Brady schooled us every time it counted. My Steelers owe Chiefs Bernard Poland an annual Christmas card since he blew out Brady’s knee in Week 1 2008 which allowed us to get to the Super Bowl. Of course Belichick went 11-5 that 2008 season WITHOUT Brady using Matt Cassel who hadn’t started a game since high school (never a starter in college, backup only). So to call Belichick an “average” coach when the best in the NFL consider him one of the greatest isn’t logical. I respect every player & coach who accomplished at the elite level & Belichick played chess on grass. Bill Parcells never got to a Super Bowl without Belichick coaching defense & Parcells is Hall of Fame. It’s not always about the record after losing talent & coaches. It’s about whether the he coached the best way to give his team a chance to win. Start with the 1990 Giants upset of the Bills & then the 2001 Patriots upset of the Rams. The NFL literally took Belichick’s written game plan from the Giants beating the Bills just after the game for a Hall of Fame exhibit. Why? One week earlier the Bills beat the Raiders in the AFC title game 51-3. So seriously, you can say Belichick has struggled with his offense but calling him an average coach puts you at odds with ppl who know this game far better than you & I as fans. It’s like telling someone it’s daylight outside when it’s night. Truth is truth.

Really 2 more games is the standard for winning success despite having derrick henry and dhop and nowhere near the amount of injuries that our team had this year. The Bill Belichick story illustrates how greatness oftentimes emerges from fragile partnerships that don't and can't last. While Belichick arguably is technically one of the most sophisticated football minds we've ever seen, his handling of personnel decisions and his handling of people is well below his technical knowledge level. Coaching is about so much more than simply breaking down the game and analyzing matchups and game plans and so forth. Belichick's deficits were covered by his extraordinary work ethic and Brady's as well, and how they were able to extract the very best from their personnel at least for a pretty decent interval. But as their talent base eroded and after Brady left, tired of Belichick's control freak routine, and presumably after Bill lost the locker room in many ways, this was predictable. I don't feel sorry for Bill Belichick. I do feel sorry that it took so long for people to see his limitations, which were all along masked and covered by his brilliant technical grasp of the game

@mtadams20098 ай бұрын
@@frankjones4357 Not really. All Tom ever did was win, no matter where he played. He did very good at Michigan. When he took over NE they were 5-11 the year before and 0-2 the year he came in. They win their first SB. He leaves and wins a SB and makes the playoffs the following to years even though he is way past his prime. Bills undoing was Bill the GM, terrible the last ten years. If he was just the coach I would’ve had no issue with him remaining the coach. Hell he let good talent walk for next to nothing. Blunt scored 18 TD and he lets him walk for next to nothing. The following year Blunt plays very well in the SB against NE. Letting Myers walk for next to nothing, Mac security blanket and who does he bring in? A washed up receiver with a bad knee. Drafting a kicker and letting Folk walk for next to nothing. Of the last 24 players drafted in the first or second round not one signed a second contract. They all sucked. Bill the coach is good, Bill the GM not so much.

Tom Curran with his obssession about Brady being let go as being the main reason for Pats decline. It was not the root of the problem. Brady was a shadow of himself in his last season with the Pats because Bill drafted so poorly and Brady had nothing to work with. With the Bucs he was very well surounded in his first year. The Belichick problem has never been Bill the coach, it was Bill the GM, with awful drafts, poor free agent signings and a disregard for the offensive side of the ball. With better drafts from 2011 on the offensive side of the ball, Brady would have played his whole careeer with the Pats. The last star offensive player drafted by the team was Gronk in 2010. In fact Gronk is the only star pass catcher drafted in the whole Belichick era. Edelman was drafted as a QB and took a long time developing, Welker and Moss were acquired via trade. So Brady covered this enormous weakness for two decades, but near the end it was so poor that it became impossible for him. Trades for Antonio Brown, Mohamed Sanu or Philip Dorset were all bad and they drafted N'Keal Harry and Joejuan Williams over AJ Brown, DK Metcalf, Deeboo Samuel and Terry McLaurin in the next 45 picks. That's the root cause of the messy endings of Brady and Belichick.

We can definitely blame Belichick for the downfall, but the Krafts have 49% of the blame for this disaster. Google cash spending in the NFL. The Pats overall spending is 29th out of 32 teams but spending on the offense is the lowest $39M vs Tennessee at $45M both teams finished with losing records. This is an offense driven league now and you need to spend on that side of the ball! It’s great they got rid of the malcontent, but you a need a strong GM and scouting department to get back to prominence. The Krafts should sell the team, if they are unwilling to spend or else this starts to look like the Red Sox!

You don't think Belichick the GM had any say on how much the Pats spent on offense versus defense?

Bill is still a good Xs and Os coach but there is so much more to coaching today's football players and he is no longer someone who can handle that. I'm not going to miss his press conferences. The guys a total arse and we tolerated it when they won. No longer was that the case. Bye bye!
