Amy “Dolly” Everett was the victim of bullying and ended her young life at just 14 years of age. ‘Speak Up’ was written in memory of Dolly and the legacy she unknowingly left behind. It was inspired by a drawing by Dolly that included the words “Speak even if your voice shakes”.
Tom Curtain, also from Katherine NT, wanted to raise awareness about bullying. He wrote the song with Garth Porter, who donated his time and studio to record the track in Sydney with the beautiful and renowned Country Music Artist Sara Storer. Ted Howard, the Sound Engineer also donated his time and expertise to the cause.
Tom organised two schools in Western Australia (where he was touring at the time) to be involved in the filming and audio recording of the track; Pinjarra Primary School and Pinjarra Senior High School. The Pinjarra Primary School Choir can be heard in the recording of the Speak Up chorus.
The Dolly’s Dream Charity has been established by her family and friends in her memory. Dolly’s Dream will work to create positive change, help prevent the lives of other children being lost, and act as a voice for those who cannot speak for themselves.
All proceeds from the sale of ‘Speak Up’ will go directly to Dolly’s Dream.
The CD includes the audio recording and video clip of Speak Up.
