Why did a country like China, with its total disrespect and disregard of human rights and freedoms, be even considered for staging the Olympic Games? The idea of the Games is to bring everyone together in the harmony of sport, a concept which the Chinese government has no understanding of or desire to uphold. Good on an athlete like Tom for saying it as it is. Athletes could fear for their freedoms or even their lives, including those of fellow athletes, in particular the Chinese participants, if a perceived wrong word or action offends the Communist Party. Who gains from this decision?
