Great video. Interesting how Tom thinks about the holes. I have certainly tried to be greedy on that hole only to come off second best. Green is really impossible so best is iron wedge and a chance for one putt. I love it and enjoy watching newbies fail like i first did.

Didn't know you were the greedy type!

The whole Mornington Peninsula is amazing for golf. Stayed there back in 2012 and played 8 courses, one of them being St Andrews Beach. Worth the trip!

I love Doak’s style of finding the golf course within the land rather than making a golf course on the land.

The 7th at Tara Iti is probably the best Tom Doak hole I have played!

Big call Brett! It is a great hole and my fave at TI, but how to compare with 11 at Pacific, 4 at Barnbougle..

The 4th at the Dunes teases you to have a crack but the wind is more often than not the enemy. Played with a Caddie last trip he straight away handed 5 iron. 7 at TI hides the fairway from you especially off the back tee and looks narrower and more difficult than it actually is if played smart.@@TheTravellingGolfer

I wonder if Tom Doaks followed Eddie Hacketts design philosophy; so many similarities: minimal earth movement, couple of very short par 4s mid round to test accuracy, risk reward options all over. Interesting video...looking forward to playing Tom’s only design in Ireland - St. Patrick’s which interestingly was started by the late Eddie Hackett.....

Tom Doak is very well versed in the styles of the architects from other eras, and indeed the more modern designers as well. He studied the links courses of the U.K. and started his working career with Pete Dye- so I would say he has had exposure to a diverse range of history's most influential golf course creators. And yet his courses are sympathetic to the land he is given.

Did he actually say what was the best way?

Hi Bill, my impression was that Tom has set up the hole so different players with different skill sets can all play the hole successfully in their own ways- it's all about making the right choices for you and then executing..

Course management; so many talk themselves out of a hole before they swing a club. Leave the ego at home
