Tom Doyle - Les Paul's luthier, guitar-tech, engineer and confidant of over 45 years shows us the very rare one-of-a-kind, very early 6120 Prototype made for Chet Atkins in the mid 50's by Gretsch as their answer to the Black Gibson Les Paul Custom. This guitar was considered lost by most aficionados, collectors, and museum curators. Tom has had the guitar in his personal collection for some time now. This very historically important piece was given to Tom by none other than Scott Chinery - best known as the owner of one of the world's most impressive and extensive guitar collections.
Tom shows us this amazing guitar, explains its history, its construction, and talks about the legacy of this amazing guitar... a very early Gretsch 6120 Prototype! Chet Atkins played this guitar for years and used it to experiment and develop all kinds of new systems, sounds, pickups, wiring and components, as well as the concept of pickups actually embedded into the fingerboard in order to potentially capture more bass response.
