? ? ? ? "One of the greatest of the 20th century? ? ? ?" Mr. Hanks needs to revise that statement..... Elvis IS the greatest of the 20th century, there was no other. I'm not expressing this view out of sentimentality nor emotions. I'm stating it from a sociological aspect, popular culture, and most of all, the Music Charts. When combining his statistics (including Top100 & Hot 100), he is in the #1 spot of all time still. The Beatles are in a distant 2nd place. Elvis had more activity on the charts, more top 10, more 2 sided hits, more top 40, gold, platinum, and more crossover than any other artist. Who else can have a simultaneous #1 hit on all 3 charts: Pop, Country, & R&B ? We are still feeling the effects of elvis. Music (including R&B) changed AFTER Elvis hit the scene. He added something to it that was not there before. Genre-wise, he is the most diverse artist with the ability to adapt to any music form & often outdo the original artists he is covering in the fields of Pop, Gospel, Country, Blues, Adult Contemporary, Operatic Ballad, etc Elvis can do it all. Let's see Frank Sinatra sing Jailhouse Rock, or MJackson sing American Trilogy, or Pavarotti sing King Creole, or any HipHop artist sing Unchained Melody. Just trying to picture that, I laughed as I wrote this, as it's so impossible to think of these folks doing what elvis does with ease. For the artists who claim to have exceeded elvis, they only focus on the modern music charts (Hot 100) beginning in late 1958, and often exclude the (TOP100 chart) which began in 1955.

Beatles certainly greater than Elvis in that they composed their own music, they outsold Elvis in record sales, their music was hugely varied and original, and their music was recorded by more artists than any other composers. Beatles were the most successful entertainment act of all time. Elvis was a "hunk", and brought sex appeal to music. He was also, along with Bill Haley, the first, and spawned a lot of other rock stars. But not the greatest. AND, Andreas van Kuik aka Col. Tom Parker, was not from Holland. He was from the Netherlands. North and South Holland are two provinces of the Netherlands. AVK was born in Breda, in the province of Nord Brabant, the Netherlands. Because he was a stateless person, he could not leave the USA, hence Elvis never went on tour. Brian Oosterbeek Nederland (province of Gelderland.)

​@@brian5154 Wrong Elvis sold more records & made more money than any other artist including the Beatles. They started out doing covers like Elvis, Elvis didn't need to be a songwriter because there were good songwriters back then. Elvis had the style & the voice the Beatles wrote songs but they weren't good singers. Elvis covered some of their songs & did it better because he could really sing. Elvis was charismatic on stage the Beatles were not as exciting as Elvis was. Elvis is the man. After the break up John Lennon was good as a solo act but Paul MacCartney is boring by himself .

Tom Hanks sucks in this film, a total caricature of Tom Parker, his voice is way off, overdid the Dutch accent, came off comical.

He was no genius. His lack of vision cost Elvis being 5x as big. Parker never understood Elvis's fanbase. For example he said the song If I can Dream nobody wanted to hear. It was just voted on Elvis's xm radio station as the his #1 song. Only a few of Elvis's Vegas concerts were filmed. How much would those be worth now.

Tom Hanks says Elvis came back briefly... 1968-1977 is not brief. 68-73 is when he sold a lot of records. Finally, whatever kind of accent Hanks used in the movie, it's kind of like a bad Russian Spy in a B-movie. Like the Gump accent he did, both immediately struck me as really phoney and was distracting to the movie.

No they weren't no one sold more records & made more money than Elvis. Nobody can touch him not even the Beatles. Elvis is the greatest phenomenon of all time. The Beatles don't even come close & Paul & John were not very good singers. Elvis is the most famous artist on the planet. Even John Lennon said "Before Elvis there was NOTHING". Elvis will never be surpassed & will always be the king.....no matter who comes along.
