I hate how overly dramatic they bring it: "a plummeting plane", it wasn't plummeting, it was gliding down. If your parachute doesn't open, you plummet to the ground, if you lose both wings on a plane, you plummet to the ground. Learn your English!
@godbluffvdgg7 жыл бұрын
I smile to think of how you would agree to the plummeting aspect were you strapped on the wing... But; you're right, it was a glide in but that is only because skully made it look like that; He had to hold an 11 degree nose up decent, or risk destroying the aircraft, while maintaining flap control and airspeed over 120...In an Aircraft to gain Airspeed you need to lower your nose...All of that is happening while you're staying alert for obstacles, He had to be at the right altitude to clear the GWB...And all of it happening in 208 seconds...Learn your physics and aviation...
@macmartin867 жыл бұрын
Thanks for the elaborate information, that was exactly what I was looking for, thank you for explaining aviation and physics in a few short sentences, without you I would plummet to the ground every day when getting out of bed

I love Sully!! I think he is extremely skilled and professional in manner but, he doesn’t realize the part that angels played in the survival of everyone on that plane. Perhaps he doesn’t believe. Maybe he does believe and just thinks they played no role in the situation. I’d love to know what he feels. The landing absolutely had much to do with his skills but, passengers were also praying their hearts out. I believe it was both God and man who made this happen. Planes almost always break apart in water landings. It WAS a type of miracle or, in the very least, an answer to many prayers crying out to God that day.

I wonder it would be possible to simulate it. It depends on huge parameters of the water type, water motion, etc. But who knows maybe it'll be possible soon. BUT the point is that every pilot has a great intuition and feeling over the aircraft so that they can control it in any way they want, in any situation! They're masters!

@russellringland13993 жыл бұрын
The unrealistic part of the movie, which I think they got dead wrong, was how far down into the water the plane plunged. The water is heavy and solid(when you hit it at speed) and the plane is light relatively light and week. It could not have plunged into the water with out collapsing like a tin can. That's basically what it is, a big tin can. The great part of this whole story is how the Captain set this tin can down on the water with smashing it into pieces. You can see from the far away video that it touched down rather gracefully. I'm sure it was still a very sudden stop for the passengers. Drop an empty aluminum can onto the top of the water and see how for it goes underwater. It will not go under at all. That is what happened in this case. I don't think this was some merical. The captain's skill made all the difference.

@Fermion.4 жыл бұрын
C'mon Brad. You obviously know how English works. We have multiple definitions for terms, depending on context. Plummet: 1.) To fall straight down; plunge. 2.) Something that weighs down or oppresses; a burden. 3.) To decline suddenly and steeply: _Stock prices plummeted._ I'd say multiple engine failure easily fulfills definition #2. In this context, "plummeting plane" = "a plane weighed down by a serious burden."

I'm sorry, but if the movie is truthful and the NTSB pilots had to do 17 practice landings to get it right, and then didn't share that with Sully and the union representatives, then the individuals were on a witch hunt.
@crashmat8 жыл бұрын
Yes, and in the film, you see how the NTSB ignored the time from the bird strike to the point at which the crew realised they had lost both engines. Thankfully, Sully insisted that the time was added and it proved that none of the simulator crews were able to return to any airport.
