I love Thor, though. Chris Hemsworth’s Thor is so pure and honest that he can’t even imagine his brother betraying him. Seriously, the moment when Loki tells him his mother doesn’t want to see him, it’s like telling a child that. It’s like kicking a puppy. So while Hiddleston is brilliant (check him out as Henry V) and smart as hell, his Loki is Loki because it develops next to Thor. Without Thor, we wouldn’t see what a total jerk he is.

Michael Crawford used to do that at the end of "Phantom" and when asked how he said it just naturally comes from the emotions of the character. I expect that is the truth with Tom as well. Nothing "on command" about that genuine a talent.

What I'm curious about is his method. I think some people can kind of summon the physical feeling that can make you well up (I've done it) but for scenes a lot of actors will actually go to a really sad personal memory and bring it up to trigger legit crying. That's dedication.
