It's true. I think "chivalry" has been denigrated to the extent that people think it's about coddling or simpering to women because they are frail or weaker than men. Tom demonstrates that it's more about being conscious and thoughtful towards other people. The woman he gave his jacket to was cold because the expectation for women is that they wear little dresses at formal events, while men wear long sleeve jackets and shirts. He helped Natalie get off the stage because the expectation for her was to wear high heels and a narrow dress and somehow find the stairs in the dark. He's doing what he can to show respect to them as people by being considerate.

All men exist within a hierarchy. Women naturally exist within a sisterhood.(because they don't have to biologically compete for sperm...there is unlimited sperm.) Women who try to get equal treatment from men within the hierarchy feel affronted when they are treated as 'less than', while men are actually treating them the same as they would treat any other man; tussling with them until they settle into their place in the hierarchy. Men are so accustomed to that process from a young age that the confrontation is minimized when its man vs man, but the place in the hierarchy is established on an almost subconscious level between men. So when women think they are being treated differently in the workplace, many times they are actually being given the same treatment that a man would get, they just don't know how to accept the hazing as they are assimilated into the hierarchy. I'm not saying it's an ideal way for people to treat each other, but the alpha behavior of men to establish hierarchy can be brutal and it is directed at everyone, not just women. As a man you learn to navigate it and show respect to those with a higher position. As a woman coming into a male dominated space, it seems entirely sexist and directed at you, but that's not 100% what's happening. Of course, this diatribe is making broad generalizations and there are exceptions to any kind of broad social observation like this...I'm just pointing out something that some women may not be privy to, as they don't have to opportunity to observe how the hierarchy works when females are not present.

Imagine the world we would have if all men, or even half of them, were like Tom! He’s so decent and humble and mindful and earnest in his respect and manners. He never ever comes off patronizing; he just listens intently and truly values both the presence and the achievements of women. He even knows how to comment appreciatively on someone’s appearance without objectifying or sexualizing them, which is incredibly refreshing to me because I too often feel that men in our society expect women to be decorative or somehow serving their preferences. It’s the way men should be, but it’s all too rare. Surely he’s had some incredible role models and for that I’m glad. Seriously he is a prince and this video is a gem. I would actually feel safe in a world where men were more like Tom Hiddleston.

He's so graceful with his words. I think the one thing about him that is so incredible is how he talks up all his female co-stars or any female he knows. I think many respectable men out there are quite sweet and they respect their female friends and co stars but even when unasked for, Tom makes it a point to spend a few minutes talking up his female friends in a way that i would imagine they subconsciously wished people would notice about their work or themselves. And Tom really just reminds the general viewers and people he's speaking to - that these women are more and more and more. He just rarely talks about himself and takes that spotlight time to shine onto others, with deeply thought out compliments that are so genuine.. I don't doubt he talks his male friends up as well. He's just such a nice person. I wonder how and when this happened in his life and why. What a wonderful person to have been born into this world. Gotta find his mama and thank her ♥

He is also clearly a KIND person along with all of the other qualities others have commented on earlier with which I agree totally. My favourite bits included here occur when he gives his jacket to the woman interviewing him and when he waits for Natalie Portman to escort her off the stage. Chris Evans is similar in that at an Academy Awards show the woman who won got her dress caught on the arm rest of her chair. He leapt up, helped her to untangle it and escorted her up the stairs for her to receive the award. I wish the men of MY GERIATRIC generation were so nicely brought up. Sigh.

Of all the videos out there showing all his skills (dancing, acting, speaking languages, being clever, funny, sewy), THIS ONE is really showing his most attractive sides, in my opinion. If you show respect to people, suddenly you're way more charismatic. I know what you mean but I have to say that he really came close with the whole Taylor Swift situation. Honestly I think that the age difference did him dirty because she wasn't probably ready or wanting the sort of mature relationship he was willing to offer her. I think the way it ended was hard for him and their relationship made quite a ruckus that shook his image a bit. And even then he gave an interview where he was so respectful of her, although he got dumped.
