Tom Hooker is the BEST! I was a DJ back in the 80s. Den Harrow's hits with his voice were truly the best. I still listen to DH album 1 and 2, and TH (Bad Reputation). The 3d DH album, ironically called "Lies", was a bit of a surprise (higher voice) when it came out. They changed the singer. Gone was Tom Hooker, so was the top voice of Den Harrow. There were some LP versions from Overpower album (I think Mad Desire) sung by someone with an Italian accent...it's clearly not the same. It was not until many years later that we learned some of Italo Disco singers were "projects with faces with someone else's voice". I wish we'd seen Tom Hooker's face and voice all along in DH project. Thanks to Tom Hooker!

Actually, I think ALL the singers were good! Tom has been perhaps the best. But I do think the record company (mistakenly in my opinion) probably didn't let Stefano sing, because he has a slight foreign accent. I think this is crazy because our accents are part of who we are - no- one says anything about ABBA. And our TV and radio I'm sure do have censorship, because only British and American artistes get played. They like to pretend all good music comes from here. So no foreign singers have a chance, not even SANDRA Cretu from Germany, who who still performs, and has had so many great songs - SUNG IN ENGLISH. ABBA were just the token foreigners, who sing in English, that were accepted by the biased media, here in the UK. I have only now discovered Italodisco on youtube, which comes up on my phone. Count me in! We DID hear the song Vamos A La Playa, by Righeira, and I have now seen their other songs on youtube! By the way, do I detect Tom Hooker as one of the singers from BAD BOYS BLUE?

I NEVER EVER believed Den Harrow sang this song even before I gained experience with what Italo Disco is. This was most likely another lip sync scandal. Why did the record label do this? Tom Hooker was very attractive then and his still handsome now.

Definitely. I said that elsewhere. Both men, I believe would have been successful publicly: Den can sing well; I love his accent. And Tom is handsome and would have been a great face for the team. Not sure what the company/production/label team was thinking, to be honest. They messed up big time. Not sure who exactly they were trying to appeal to.

suavehinrg Likely because dance music appeals mainly to teenagers and people who go to clubs and those kinds of people tend to be very young and very shallow, and since most dance acts aren't that successful and/or don't last very long, it's easy money for a tiny record label. The crazy thing about Den Harrow was that Tom Hooker wasn't the first person to do the vocals. There were two other vocalists before the act was signed to Baby Records and became truly successful with Hooker singing, so Stefano Zandri's involvement in Den Harrow actually predated Hooker being the singer.

It is a shame what happened between Tom Hooker and Stefano Zandri. BUT....I wonder 1) why was Hooker never the face of Den Harrow. 2) why did Zandri never use his real voice. I know the answer to these; it was just business using the "best features" of the team: best "face"; best "voice". BUT both men had the face and the voice to make it, and I wish they could have had their individual careers. I believe they would have both succeeded.

This was actually a very common practice for Italodisco where they'd have models perform the songs while lip synching. Mauro Farina for example rarely sings in person, check out any Radiorama music video and see that he had various models lip synch to his voice.

Because both Hooker and Zandri actually before him were not the ones pulling the strings of Den Harrow in the first place. It was the producers of the music that brought the both of them on as part of essentially a brand name rather than a real performer. The producers did do music with Hooker that they released under his real name and image, but Den Harrow was the financial priority for the record label at the time and they were forced to sideline Tom Hooker’s own music to a degree. Hooker was realistic and gracious though that it was just business.

Den Harrow is a bully. Tom Hooker is an artist. I really admire your work Tom, not only what you did behind the Den Harrow project, but also as "Tom Hooker", "Lou Sern", "Fahrenheit 104" and others. As for changing your last name, that's your personal affair and If I had a wife that I loved, I too would change my family name for her if she or I felt it was necessary. I also want to say that I always recognized the quality and energy of your unique voice and would have never mistaken it for any other voice or a playback stage performer. You did the right thing to clarify this to the public though, because you don't let people walking over you and bullying you around, especially when you have a family. It was very disrespectful what D.H. did. Threatening and bullying is a serious issue and offence in my oppinion and I hope some day we will all learn to deal with it and repress it once and for all.

In my opinion I'd sum it up like this: Hooker had the best vocals for these songs and yet the music production and Zandri's stage persona where are a perfect fit for the Italo Disco music of that period. Zandri wants to live off his past success using Hooker's vocal talent and that is just not right.

I think the real issue was Zandri trying to start trouble in public with Hooker. As Hooker says, if Zandri had “been nice about it,” he probably would have had no issue with Zandri still lip-syncing to his vocals in concerts.

Stefano Zandri should consider himself lucky that Den Harrow was never big beyond Europe. If he was, he'd likely have suffered a similar fate as Rob & Fab did in Milli Vanilli when Frank Farian revealed that the two guys were lip-synchers.

Hooker is still great today. Just listen to his track "Change your mind" in the 80's club mix version. He gives all the former Den Harrow fans what they really want. Totally new songs...but with the familiar voice of the 80's. By the way: I liked Hooker already in the 80's when he sang a song called "Looking for love". And Zandri? Wikipedia clearly states that it was Tom Hooker who sang Den Harrow's songs. So it surprises me that his fans don't believe it, as Hooker here states. And the accent makes it quite clear that it can't be an Italian singing it, though Italians settled in the United States might acquire that accent. I knew before listening to this video that it was Tom Hooker who was the singer of all the songs. It was as clear as daylight, but perhaps that's because Hooker put up this video in the first place. I began listening to Den Harrow only from around 2012...

I know this is a little late but I just noticed the feature that was released on VUDU today. As an american I did dabble in Italo Disco a little & yes I enjoyed quite a few of the songs. I guess my only advise is Tom write some new material. Let "Den" go try to release his own new material. Once ppl begin to see that "he cant" but you are the tables will turn. Personally I would love to hear some ID come back. The thing I dislike about the music industry is the evolution of various bands. What I mean by that is most change their sound to fit the times. Maybe its time to dust off those old analog synths & get writing again. No ones ever too old...

I'm sure it is painful for Stefano Zandri to be exposed as not being the real singer on those hits, but that fact has been a public secret for years. I read through all of the comments and was very surprised that there were so many 'supposed' fans who were clueless about this issue. Fans of both Tom Hooker and Den Harrow (or the 'Den Harrow Project' although it was never referred to that way). In the world of Italo Disco beginning as far back as the early to mid 80's there were many artists/projects with singular names, obscure names and such where it has been common knowledge that over a period of years multiple vocalists have been used, most of the time uncredited, but not completely unknown. It's not as though they aren't paid for their work. If you look at the credits on all of the Den Harrow 12" records you see "T. Hooker". Did you seriously think he just helped to write the songs?? That the voice was not so similar to his own releases?? C'mon!!! Keep on finding Tom's newer stuff on AMD Records. There's lots more!

It was because plenty of singers were competing for success and it was a very crowded field and they wanted to make money anyway they could. When you’re struggling, sometimes you’ll do anything. It also was a byproduct of a lot of racism and ageism from some record buyers, particularly young people who tended to be shallow and lived in the moment, but also always a very reliable market for buying records. But once Milli Vanilli happened and it got so big that a lip-syncing act won a Grammy award, it was a practice that was considered no longer acceptable in the music industry because the Recording Academy are considered the ultimate elites of the whole music industry worldwide and them awarding one of their top honors to a lip-synching act embarrassed them and threatened to destroy their credibility at the time.

Because Hooker, like many performers, was probably struggling to make a living with his own music and the producer gave Hooker an opportunity to not only sing, but write the songs for an additional project. Music is a business and Hooker actually got the better half of the deal in Den Harrow since he wrote all the songs and that’s where the real money is in selling records. Hooker did get to do music under his own name for the same record label not long after Den Harrow was a success and was pretty successful in his own right. Success in music is about more than just fame.

Everybody could recognise that awsome voice. Micky is an awsome producer and his songs are timeless, I love 'm still today. The SAIFAM record company released new masters with Tom Hooker's voice again under the name Den Harrow without a contract and this is also illegal. Because like any struggling musician, he wanted success and he was willing to achieve it any way he could, even if just in the background basically singing and writing for hire for a brand name. The issue clearly was Hooker simply was being honest since he was no longer bound to any sort of confidentiality agreement with the record label he worked for at the time and Zandri was basically trying to publicly pick a fight with him. If Zandri had just let it go and been gracious, Hooker would have no problems with Zandri still lip-syncing to his vocals, but Zandri chose a publicly classless route.

So Den Harrow “Stefano” is this machista bad boy threatening Tom? I always thought Stefani was gay and a sissy. Always knew he wasn’t the singer cause as a kid I would see Stefano perform and thought how cheesy and obvious he’s lip synching. The voice didn’t even match his look. When I heard looking for love by Tom Hooker, it always reminded me of Den Harrows sound. When the internet was born I was obsessed with looking up and learning and buying anything 80’s and long and behold, I learn Tom Hookers name on Den Harrow records on Cd Now (an Amazon/Discogs type website with info, and Discogs site and italo disco sites where I learned about the artists. I still didn’t find or hear about this feud until now with KZbin years later. I guess Tom Hooker really was keeping it hidden and to himself all these years until he had enough. I remember seeing Stefano crying on some reality show where I wondered if it was due to being found out or not being relevant anymore 😂

We believe you and there have been many like him in this business, shame on him. Even today in the US also or UK and Germany also. But you have to think about it, these lie are told because of the conservative approach American and British society regard any artist from Italy, say also Germany or Spain. Unfortunatelly this guy has taken pride in a voice which is not his, and thats wrong. He could have shut up. Hoeever I have to admit Italo disco was also great with original Italian singers, they have excellent voices too and their voice matched that kind od music really well. Miss these days, produced with real synths. Now R&B, hiphop rap have destroyed all that thanks to the media promoting them heavily. These music, hiphop, rap etc is only crap with absolutely no talent. Sad nowadays kids have been brainwashed to these tunes. In the 80's there were cool and the gang, lionel richie etc, now there are asholes like Chris brown or Kanye West.
