As a brass player, I found Mr. Hooten’s conceptual idea of breathing to be extremely helpful. I also integrated this video into my high school classroom and it had an immediate effect on their playing.

I was left with one thought, which is that I wish young musicians' dreams were less about gigs like LA or NY (should've been Boston anyway) and more about the music they wanted to be able to make and the mountains they needed to climb to be able to get there . Sounds uninspiring, but landing gigs is outside our control. I think dreams are something we can achieve through our own energy and dedication. Dreaming that you're the one that lands that gig is dependent on thousands of others with the same dream getting out of your way. That's actually a fantasy. A dream is having a clear(ish) image of the musician you want to become and a plan to get there. Dreams that depend on luck, being at the right audition the right day, being introduced to the right people at the right point actually takes away the responsibility of making it happen. It's also a sure path to disappointment. Know what great is, find out what it takes to get there, and when you turn in at night dream about what you're going to do to get there. And finally, all that is just my opinion, and not a criticism of that young player or any other.

The one person that gave this a thumb down is either a clarinetist or a snare drummer. Really excellent getting this out of the brain and into the air. The slap at trombonists however was uncalled for. I don't think we're more evolved than tubists. Just weaker.
