I would really love to reach Tom Lehrer to share with him that my 3/4 grade students performed L-Y at a spring concert. It was by far the biggest hit of the night- adored by young and old! Wow; one of my favorite "Electric Company" songs. Even before watching this again, I could still sing 4 verses from memory. I believe Tom Lehrer contributed 10 songs to the show. Some of them (like this one) he sang himself, while others were sung by one or more of the main cast members.

Yeah, in case you didn't know, the guy who sung this is Tom Lehrer. Most of his songs, turns out, are very much not PG.

@@Chrischi3TutorialLPs Not true. They are suggestive, not explicit. In the 50s all the way to the mid-80s (when the ratings system was changed thanks to _Gremlins_ and _Temple of Doom_ ) you could show brief nudity or drop an F-bomb or two and still be able to garner a PG rating.

I like the retro Electric Company over the 2009 version because of 3 main reasons.One,they had Letterman and Spiderman episodes,Two,they had the three and five second word reads even though it was originally five and ten in earlier episodes.Finally 3,I loved the retro shows much better than the later version,only 4 best friends,Special Agent Jack Bowser,Captain Cluck,the 3 gorillas,24 to read a message and just barely escape the trouble spot.I liked that OK,but not the other corny skits.

I have been singing this song for nearly 50 years. Especially the "carefully" part. 😁 Just today, my wife noticed a tree in our woods that had fallen but not all the way, and its caught up in another tree. I told her i would cut it down. She said "well, it looks dangerous; i don't know how you're going to do that". I replied: "carefully; carefully; careful-ly!"

See, stuff like this introduced me to Tom, even though I didn't know who he was at the time, or that he did these songs. Then years later I heard his other stuff. And put the pieces together years later and was stunned.
