Tom ... Jethro Tull's Ian Anderson once said in an interview that he was so very thankful for his devoted fans, as they allowed him the space to be able to experiment. He figured he could fart into the mic for maybe two albums before fans started to abandon him, which meant they'd probably still be around when he dipped his toes into somewhat different genres over the years. While you've not had the decades that he had for building that connection, I think the connection you're building with your audience is similar.
