Before I lost my fiance to cancer, she struggled with alcoholism for years. She got completely sober for just over a year, and I was so proud of her, but then she gave in for some reason and drank a beer, and next thing you know, she's right back into the addiction to alcohol. Then she used the fact that she relapsed as an excuse to say she couldn't stay sober, so why bother trying. She DID finally try again, and was sober for the last year or so before she passed. You are so right about how they are a COMPLETELY different person when they are drinking like that. She could be SO hard to deal with sometimes. I would say the primary reason she was only my fiance, and we never actually set a date and got married, was the alcohol.

Oh my friend I am so sorry to hear about that, I can't imagine the pain you must have gone through with not only the cancer but the struggles before. I've watched people try in my life and if I'm honest I only know one who succeeded. And that was because they'd not be here anymore if they didn't. Seems a hard thing for people to find the strength to so sadly. Like you said, it is strange that they feel like a stranger sometimes, you can love one side of them and hate the other. If it wasn't mentioned in the comments already, there was a clip of one of Tom's tattoos that said "see you tomorrow." Both he and Brandon got it on their arms because back when they were in that headspace, they would go out and get so wasted that they just spent the rest of the day or night only to wake up the next day to do it again. Now after being clean, the tattoo means that Tom is going to live to continue seeing his friends.

Luke this was a most real and deep reaction 🤗❤ i am so relieved Tom made it through this.. he is a amazing person and someone to look up to. I see what alcohol can do. My sister in law lives with us now. She has been a complete alcoholic since she was a kid. She is only 57 and looks like she is 80, acts even older. Alcohol destroyed her. I have to take care of her physically. She is allowed a 6 pack a day. Because she is not willing to quit and I don't want her to die. She has to eat before I vet her beer. Her coming from a case and half a day..she is doing as well as she can. Sending good vibes and prayers to all who suffer from this. Makes me sad to see the struggle he has had to go through and that the struggle will probably always be there😢 The friends I hung around when I was in high school like to party and I did with them but I started to fail in school and had to make the choice to want to do better. I pretty much had no friends the last 2 years of school because I chose to not party with them but I graduated honor roll and they ended up dropping out so I made the right choice. Some people said he wasn't really crying and okay they say maybe it's an act BUT there is a change in the eyes, not so much the expression on the face but the eyes change and I'm not talking about the tears. It's hard to explain but when he looks at you at the end of this video, it's the same eyes as in his video Balloons when he is in the studio at one point you see the same eyes (the ones you know that have been shedding tears) so you absolutely feel the emotions and the real struggle.I know this life is hard enough without adding the problems addictions cause and once again the duality, the great buzz and then the destruction, the good and the bad, angels and demons. This song is not really one of encouragement, I see it more as a lesson on the reality of substance abuse. In the end, you either beat it or overdose. Either way, that passage out is not pretty. It’s better not to start, seriously. Tom is speaking 💯 Truth. One of the great aspects of this is it can give insight to those, not suffering withdrawals but witnessing a loved one go through it.
