Thank you for singing, while teaching others to play the guitar chords. It adds so much, and it encourages others to live a little and sing too. Great song writers like Petty somehow allow us to share in their genius in this surreal way….and your interpretation just proves that.

wow bro thank you!...im trying to fix my bad habits I picked up early on. For example I think ive learnd the G chord all wrong. For some reason I always use my index for the A string and middle for low E. Now I realize the error of my ways by not using my middle and ring finger for the bass strings so i can keep my index ina better position for this transition. Simple chord progression really but super fun and easy to jam over. I know what I need to practice now lol

I originally learned this as a very beginner song from Marty Shwartz with a simple switch from C and I think it was F Sharp by a small move of the same shape up a chord. This version sounds more full but I have to admit I was having hell with the 2010 101 part the first half was easy the 2nd was harder for me. I played it as slow as I could for a few mins but cramps burning and thats a wrap for me Ill try again in a for days.

Oooooohhhh. It's a suicide song. Never knew that till now. Great lesson
@397coney74 жыл бұрын
Hmm, I’ve never thought of it as a suicide song. Songs are up for interpretation though. This is a quotation from Petty, about the song; "I think i was coming to grips with the view that you can be optimistic, hopeful and as good a person as you want to be, but its not going to make life simple for you. Nothing will. You can have all the success you want and its not going to make your life-really your personal life-much easier than anyone else's. The song was also influenced by the Gulf War. It was written during the time the war was breaking out, everything was very grey, and there were burning oceans and oil fires. I was disappointed by the war and the attitude of the American people. I certainly didn't blame the soldiers for going there, but I felt that few people wanted to challenge the Bush administration on its lies. It was a bad time and I really think it influenced the tone of the album” ~T.Petty
