He was a heartbreaker: Tom Petty's relationships included 'fiery' chemistry with Stevie Nicks and a tortured first marriage - before he married the groupie he credited with saving him from addiction.

Tom Petty is very special to me for many reasons. For one I was age 10-11 when Torpeados came out in 1979, and I was just getting pre-teen enough where you don't just hear the music, but you listen to it, and my friends and I played that album to death and never got tired of it. I then saw him in 1985, 88', and probably 5 other times and his concerts were always awesome, 1988 being my fav. Tom Petty is a true American and lived the true American Dream, of coming from nowhere and following his goal until he made it, and he is also one of THE best song writers rock will ever know and I am Still very sad that he's gone!

Jayne was a nightmare, I used to clean for her & her mum. After a while me & my daughter's used to stay over. She loved my girl's, she made them call her aunt Jayne. It's very sad because she had a heart of gold, but she was so controlling. She definitely had mental issues. I would have to just humour her to make my life easier. After about 8 month's I quit, I started getting migraines. I missed her as a person because we got on great but she definitely made it known that she was in control. Tom left EVERYTHING and just left. Even all his band equipment.

Cannot believe one of the most underated singer sonngwriters (in my opinion) has passed. Gone to soon well before his time. Only played in Ireland twice. First time early 90's i had tickets but had strep throat couldn't go, but was at his second and last concert in Dublin. It was amazing. RIP Tom Petty gone but will never be forgotton. Oh it’s ok that Stevie says “oh yeh, we drank, did lines and smoked herb, but I would of never guessed that he was doing heroin”! I fucking hate when people say shit like that because to me, theres no difference, a drug is a drug, an it’s ok she drinking and smoking and shoveling coke up her nose, but heroin, omg, that’s terrible! Give me a break, there all bad for you, but weed ain’t that bad, but I just don’t get it when people react like that, in fact I think coke is worse!

And if she was really his friend then she would’ve told him to stay home with his children and his wife and to help his family there can always be another tour there’s not an always another family to try to hold together that’s what a true friend does but she made sure she went to that concert tour with them though didn’t she always wanted to leave we would Mac and go with Tom Petty and the Heartbreakers and he always told her that it’s an all boys band I remember him saying that he said you can’t get rid of her for nothing

I got the impression from that biography that Nicks was very grasping in that effect. She went through the wife to get to Petty.
@virginiaviola5097 Жыл бұрын
@@lottari3682but she wanted to go on that tour to be with Joe Walsh. Nobody ever said that Stevie wasn’t selfish and got what she wanted, but then she wouldn’t have made it as a woman in rock if she hadn’t been. And maybe Stevie was afraid for Tom’s life if he stayed. Like many people in Jayne’s situation, they don’t want help, and staying is what kills the other partner. So, maybe Stevie did the right thing by Tom.

Am a fan of his music but many people come from abusive childhoods and rise above it and don't use drugs - it sounds like excuses being made for why he used drugs.Unfortunately, he used because he wanted to, he had a rock star life, fame, money, he was a talented artist but was a drug addict like quite a few musicians. Sounds like he wasn't a great family man either, still like his songs but know he was flawed/human too.
@melissagerber72316 жыл бұрын
blue sky A lot of people do, though ( I didn’t , either) Others might self medicate in other ways, though, with alcohol, cigarettes, food, promiscuous sexual behavior, repeating bad relationships in an attempt to recreate the relationship with the abusive parent and make it better, etc. A lot of his early use might’ve been a social and generational thing, true. He wasn’t a prude about the substances that he quit using, either. Brain chemistry and individual personality differences can be tricky and complicated.
@dogluvr34454 жыл бұрын
Constant abuse during the ENTIRE childhood has a profound effect on individuals during later years. Each person is different. The sorrow takes over & some will turn to substance abuse to escape. Back then there was no therapy to get help & it was often kept secret. He survived & found happiness with beautiful Dana & better yet, she was his therapist & he recovered. The painful hip & his dedication to his fans was why he used pain meds but he kept going too long & eventually his hip caved in. He wanted a few weeks to rest up & be with Dana before surgery but he accidently overdosed which is sad. I blame the drug companies for manufacturing dangerous addictive drugs without full disclosure on the hazards. ALWAYS look your meds up on the net & educate yourself of the side effects to avoid tragedies like this sad loss of such a Wonderful Loving, Tallented & Brilliant Man. A kind Man Indeed that left us so many treasures to remind us of him. He did this for us, He Did it for Real......

She saved herself, yet the people at the rehab get no credit. Stevie Nicks Is the luckiest mediocre female vocalist at the right place at the right time to help her become famous when she started out. The band could of chosen anyone else that was much better, but Stevie was very fortunate, indeed, that they selected her. Madonna, Sheena Easton, Laura Branigan, and others that were successful never had a prop up through a band. A lot of female vocalists were self made and fought much harder. Stevie is lucky 🍀 she had the platform served to her on a silver platter. Stevie Is the “Jada Pinkett Smith” of music 🎵.
