Musically I'm a layman, unable to comment on any of the technical issues, lol. I can comment, however, as someone who has listened to The Byrds' version hundreds of times and Tom Petty's cover scores of times, that it's a thrill to hear and watch you play it on your Rickenbacker. That sound is unique, almost haunting, and certainly touches the soul. Thank you for playing it for us!

Excellent job! I got to meet Roger McGuinn at a sound check a few years ago. Besides being the 12-string legend, he’s a great guy. I got goose bumps when he hit the opening chords of “Turn, Turn, Turn”. His wife leaned over to me and said: “That still happens to me every time”.

My brother had a new 1979 Mapleglo Rickenbacker 360/12 that he bought at Manny’s Music World in Manhattan on 47th Street. We shared a bedroom as teenagers, and we’d stack the stereo record player with every Byrd’s album that would fit and it would play well into the summer night with the windows open for the neighbors to hear. It’s a beautiful guitar...no guitar looks like it or sounds like it. Go Rick-o-sound!

Sir ---------just do remember, Roger McGuinn made his now legendary " Jingle Jangle Sound ", with a Rickenbacker 370 --12 string ; he also used some engineering tricks to amplify the ' chime sound " of the 370. -------------As for the 360, both George Harrison & Carl Wilson both got their 360 model in the summer of '64 . Harrison can be heard on " A Hard Days Night " , & Carl Wilson can be seen playing his, on The TAMI Show..
@jbl5050 Жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks for your view and comment, although I didn't quite get the meaning of your response. Yes, I'm totally aware of the Rickenbacker history of the great players you mentioned, I was not suggesting Roger McGuinn played a 360. If you're referring to his 3 pickup model, that's actually a 375, not a 370. The 5 in the model number indicates 3 pickups. I was merely just playing one of my favorite Ric 12 songs and calling attention to my guitar only in the title.

***** I hear ya man....I have a problem....it's called guitarded....I have more than 20 axes....some of them are pretty special. I have a JDram Warrior that is crazy cool and I don't play it enough. It's got pretty hot pickups and it's mostly for harder rock stuff. ALMOST CAN'T get clean tones out of it. But that's the kind of rock I usually play anyway.... No matter what I pick up for the day I end up playing my PRS SE single cut with birds, Hot Rodded pups and locking tuners AND 8's.....talk about easy string bending! I may never play with 10's again! Action is awesome and it sounds perfect in the man cave. Fender Champ X2 and a 112 cabinet. Took me a long time to dial the sound in and I finally am happy with the tone and feedback and what not. That combo sounds terrible on gigs but it's exacty what I have searched for over the years. You can't practice worth a shit if you don't have the sound. Keep em coming bubba....I still jam with your Bad Co and other stuff. I've picked up a lot of pointers from your playing style. Helped me a ton to get over a plateau once or twice. I'm getting there FINALLY! LLB has helped me a ton too. LOVE those guys! Heard their Boston stuff yet? WOW! SERIOUS musicians! But when you have a pool of musicians to pick from like they do it's kind of hard to screw up.....hehe and Dale is an AWESOME guy!
@jbl50508 жыл бұрын
Wow 20+ guitars? You've got me beat hands down and I was just beginning to think I had a problem ; ) Just kidding of course. I was starting to kind of get a bit of remorse after getting the Rick but have been playing it a lot more and really beginning to get a feel for it. There are a few others I would still like to add to the collection. One being an older original Grestch Country Gentleman or a Tennessean and a PRS but of course both are out of the budget right now and for the forseeable future. Amp wise my Marshall blew up a few weeks ago and started using one of my '69 Bassman heads. I swear using a Boss Blues Driver thru that amp to me sounds as good if not better than the Marshall. Speaking of LLB, No as of yet I have not checked out the Boston series but will do so here shortly. Yes you are absolutely correct in as they are some of the best musicians I've ever heard and absouletly nail everything they attempt to cover. Also really appreciate your comment as to you listening to a few of my vids to learn parts on songs you're working on! Thanks and keep in touch.... Also would love to hear some of your stuff!

I'm about to buy a 360 Rick. Fireglow because Petty seemed to like that color.

Fantastic as always. You know, that sounds soooo much like Petty's version I think I almost prefer your first take from a year or so ago...especially the slide in to the solo

Hi Ross. Thanks so much for the view and nice comment. I was never real happy with the older version audio as I believe I had just miked the amp straight and it came out a bit distorted so when I got the Rick I thought it might be a good song to re record.

jbl5050 it's always worth hearing again. I've been listening to it for 25 years now since I got a copy of Full Moon Fever and it never gets old. Keep up the good work

Hi JBL, Great job on this tune one of my all time favorites Petty's version! Thank you for sharing this and showing how to play that solo lick with constant studying of your take on it I finally nailed it. BTW I'm using a vintage '66 Rickenbacker with the octave string in front of the root string has a different but subtle voicing with a Fender Twin Deluxe amp. Thanks again!!!
