Yeeeeeeahhhhhhh, anger and hate..... enjoying being evil....That totally must have been his two main reasons. Except for the fact, that Riddles mother actually used a love spell to make Voldis father fall in love with her, let Riddle senior go after she came clear to the fact that he never REALLY loved her, then she died. Voldemorts father never wanted to reach out to him, not knowing what had happened to his own mind when he was under the love spell, (even kinda got raped by her in a way), and then young Voldi got sent to an orphanage, already having strange tendencies to violence and a craving for power, which he used against young kids there. But yeah, you totally figured it out, by watching the movies only I guess? There is no anger, there is no hate. He just had weird genes from the Gaunts (an old slytherin ancestry family known for being totally crazy/abusive/psycho), combined with no caregiving in any way from his parents, adding the love spell his father was under, when they, uhm, you know what, did, which messed up his true capactiy of feeling. Literally how psychopaths in the real world are made. Genetics and environment. Voldemort feels nothing at all, except for him standing over people and them obeying, admiring him, serving him.

the whole concept was pretty dark and interesting; imagine if he could have gotten back to life and was a supporting character or sth. It would've been amazing to have him around being all baddie and cunning as his actions were. I just love how such a handsome, intelligent fellow was able to pull all that shit and everything he did under everyone's noses kfkdkd truly a Dark Lord and sometimes he appears to be overpowered because of his greatness. A much compelling character indeed

Ugh whyyy does nobody understand Voldemort, he wasn’t born evil. I feel bad for him, everyone thinks he’s heartless and mean but there’s more to him. He might’ve been ashamed of his father but he wanted a family too. Everyone has a reason, he wasn’t bad because he randomly wanted to, he was hurt. His family never loved him, nobody wanted to play with him, everyone thought he was a freak because he was different. Hogwarts was his only hope. When he found out he could do magic he was happy. You might be like “if he was good then why is he in slytherin’’ simple. He was a slytherin because he was related to Salazar slytherin. He never knew friendship or love, he only knew evil. So that’s what he became, e v i l.

uhm tom was conceived under a love potion which means he’s unable to feel emotions or feel sympathy but he can most definitely fake it. the only way it can go away is if tom was shown love as a child, but his mother died right after he was born, his father left, and the orphanage he was at treated him like shit which lead him to hate muggles. so therefore tom couldn’t feel any emotions

Nah he was born evil. Well maybe evil isnt the best term, maybe more like psychopath. He feels no emotions. the trauma he had in his youth is simply what sparked him to do bad things, but he was already bad in the first place.

Imagine if they had cast Christian as Voldemort instead of Ralph Fiennes .. not that Ralph was bad as Voldy.. but just for the story and the intrigue.. all the makeup and CGI would have turned Christian into a fine Voldemort..

I’m sorry to say this but Ralph was terrible as Voldemort. The reason why I say that is because he was supposed to be terrifying but he made him a complete and utter goof. That’s why I couldn’t take him seriously. That’s not saying Ralph Fiennes is a terrible actor. He played a terrifying Nazi in Schindler’s list.

@@kgunitkeese17 I wouldn't necessarily blame him but rather the directors. Mike Newell was a terrible director and he's the whole reason for why "Dumbledore asked calmly" is a meme. Just like he made old Albus into a hyper aggressive grouchy old man, he made Voldemort too over the top. But Ralph was spot on in Order of the Phoenix, he really sold being the same person as the parasitic face from Philosopher's Stone. The Deathly Hallows movies are a mixed bag, sometimes he's chilling, terrifying and once again reminding of the face on Quirrell's head (the Malfoy Manor meeting, after he slaughter Griphook and the Gringotts employees and speaks to Nagini in Parseltongue, when he gives Hogwarts an ultimatum with the amplified voice), but he hammed up the goofy screams and laughs too much in the action scenes.

Voldemort looking like a handsome young man is far more interesting than him looking like a human-snake hybrid, in my opinion. There is something fascinating about seeing a normal-looking man doing evil acts. It reminds us that, in real life, monsters seldom appear monstrous on the surface.

i never heard him in this role in english, as i only know the german version. but i'm really amazed, his shyness, as he is in real life, gives him an insidious touch in his role. he really has a beautiful voice and is really damn good looking! even today!
