A brilliant opener and every track that follows keeps up the urgency and fear of the time. I've bought hundreds of albums over the years and still love many but this one is far and away the best. Went to see TRB at Manchester Apollo on 5th October '78 in my grey Cortina - left it in the car park and it had been nicked when we came out. I should've known better !!

Hi Mark, I was at the gig too,awesome. I was a 16 year old punk back then and saw many great bands at the Apollo in the era as well as TRB, including : The Clash, SLF, Sham 69..Best music years EVER 🙌

They were genuinely angry and pissed off. Played this at full volume back in the day. Sums up the period perfectly.

Have to agree with you there, I ran into him and his wife and kids a couple of times myself in Brighton and he's always got time for a chat - one of music's GENUINE nice blokes for sure. His shows on BBC 6 Music are well worth a listen too. National treasure, I'd say - his whole band are, actually - as other people have said in these threads, Danny Kustow is an amazing guitarist, certainly ranks as my favourite. He makes it all seem so effortless, when we all know it bloody well ISN'T, and Dolphin Taylor is definitely on a par with Keith Moon.

Linda Carroll Couldn't agree more. Met Tom several times over the past 20-odd years during his many visits to Dublin and he has always been an absolutely lovely bloke. They say you shouldn't meet your heroes, but I am very glad in this instance that I did.

Thank You Tom Robinson and Tom Robinson Band for tour excellency. Greetings to A Gorgeous Drag Queen in Oslo, Norway. Me and family loves you ❤️. Tom you brought us to the daylight the presence how it is. I believe that your life philosophy differs from the L.B.T.Q. etc community. We are friend and brothers already. No pain, just our lives from here on.

So what’s changed? - meet the real Tom robinson
@newforestpixie5297 Жыл бұрын
my chum Glynn was a total ladies man & effortlessly cool along with props such as always chewing matches & wearing cowboy boots - so when TRB played Glad To Be Gay at Southampton he resolutely sat firm with his mouth closed & arms folded….to be fair to him his Forest village was an enclave for Status Quo & had real cows & ponies on its roads so the boots weren’t too weird & he had embraced the bands’ more left wing sentiments more than the majority of his community.

Quite right Ozzie. Properly grown up language. Eloquent to put it mildly. The shame is that the next generation won't get the phone box/vandalism thing - brilliant observation. Sullen, unhealthy and mean... I was born in '63 and this single sums up my teenage years. But, aside from the (outstanding) lyrics, the music was rasping, perfectly timed and as good a rev up as there is. I would even go as far as to say (with The Clash, Costello, The Jam, Siouxsie et al all in mind) this was the best single of that genre. Perfectly crafted. Saw them at The Fleece in Bristol about 3 years ago. They played this plus P in the D straight through. Faultless.
