There’s a beauty in the prewar stuff ,a toy like quality and a beautiful enameled finish. You may say a real quaint look of yesteryears toys. Mr. Snyder some way some how is looking down at this and loving it.

The watertower at 2:31 is from his Late Late Show set at CBS in LA, and was designed by legendary scenic artist Kathleen Ankers.

Now that's how J.L. Cowan intended layouts to be. No grass carpet here or felt paper here. This is awesome. It's the best Standard Gauge layout I have ever seen.

Thank you for making this video and thanks to all who worked to make this layout available for all to enjoy. Prior to Standard gauge, he had a LOT of o-gauge. I have photos somewhere.

I imagine he would have probably liked the Miniatur Wunderland in Hamburg which I went to twice; that had an American section along with sections recreating Scandinavia, Hamburg itself etc. Come to think of it there was also a museum section with loads of portraits of public figures from around the world who had visited/supported the exhibit, wonder if his was there? (It opened in 2000 I think)

Did Snyder add the sound to the trains before his death, or did someone else add them after his death? Just curious.

They came that way. Mikes Train House I think. And he liked the heavy smoke output, "You want smoke? You got smoke." I have home video of the layout with sounds. He liked the platform train announcements too.

Plastic crap became the norm but nothing stands out like tinplate.
