Tom van Steenbergen's INSANE Rampage Front Flip

Tom van Steenbergen is a veteran of Red Bull Rampage and always leaves us excited about his style. This year he pulled out a huge front flip drop, Cam McCaul and myself dive into Tom's trick of the year.
This past weekend saw the craziest event in the Mountain Bike calendar, Red Bull Rampage returned to the Southern Utah desert on the outskirts of the town of Virgin, USA. I'm joined by a famous Rampage face and personality Cam McCaul as we break down the event from the logistics of putting an event like this together, to the incredible first year there is a Woman's category and the controversy that is ever-present with the judging and what the true meaning of Rampage means.

He broke his ankle at big white this past summer. He built one of the largest flat drops to airbags at Brett Rheeders to practice that frontflip. Then he got it done at Rampage.

As someone that doesn't ride mountain bikes, it looked to me like Tom's front flip was right on the limits of what can or ever will be done. And front flips are so blind, and the rotation does not smooth the landing at all, rather it makes the pressure worse. The rebound when he landed causeed the bike to lift back off the ground again, bouncing around on those landings reduces control and you'd say they need the control back ASAP on landing those big tricks.
