I like late night songs about barflies and junkies. And I don't like overimaginative music critics ripping great albums to pieces. They take it all, (and themselves) so seriously, there's no humour left. How can you really enjoy an album like that? Not me. Maybe we should review the critics..

I think Tom often intentionally overplays his characterizations, to sort of wink at the audience and let them know he's aware of the theatrical nature of what he's doing.
