Hi Tom, when removing the bedding do you only take out the 8-10 feet that the telehandler can clear from the back of the pens, and if not how is the remainder of the pen cleaned out??

I'm interested in this design - is there a place where you share or sell it? How many pigs does it hold?

A few of Jennifer Soissons's facts are correct, but her realities maybe eschewed.50 pigs to a pen. Yes RSPCA assurance allows 55 pig in those pens. other assurance schemes more, so as you can see the stocking rate is lower than the norm for this farm as with any other farms that supplies high end retailers in the UK. I agree this lowers the stress levels that's why we stock at these lower levels, also we split sex the animals to ensure even lower stress levels. This all helps with welfare.Antibiotics NO!! the only time they are used is if an animal is sick and requires an antibiotic treatment (vet supervised). just because the public don't pay for antibiotics they feel they are cheap. Wrong. the art of good pig keeping is to have a well managed unit that maintains a natural balance of good welfare, high health, good environment and the animals will thrive. Genetically modified soya yes unfortunately un genetically modified soya in large quantities is impossible to source. As nearly all soya is genetically modified and infects the non modified. Therefore if you believe you eat unmodified soya think again. Unless it is sourced from certain areas of the world the chances are it is not possible to pass the scrutiny of GM free. We try to source soya from un modified sources but can not guarantee it (not America but South America).Modern planning in the UK requires any new unit to have provision for all waste and run off to be included in their planning submissions. Otherwise the county councils and the Environment agency will not accept the application.I totally agree with your comments on pay more for all meat, every animal should be given the best life whilst it is in our care. Sadly many don't share this view and see meat as a constituent of their diet and give no thought to its life / death or anything else until prompted by some consumer survey.

This farm looks good with the shed design and straw but they are only showing the pens with half the number of pigs they have to keep in there Imagine nearly 50 pigs per pen! (pause to count them!) 2000 pigs per "crop". The reality is overcrowded stressed pigs on antibiotics eating genetically modified soy beans imported from the US. Why dont they show the reality of the true stocking density? Too horrific for consumers to stomach? Local plans for a Waitrose farm on exactly the same contract have no provision for the waste and run off on their plans either. They are planning to produce 1900 pigs in two sheds with 20 pens in each shed Turn around every 20 weeks (47.5 per pen). Stop pumping out cheap meat. Raise the price of meat (or take less profit) and give the pigs the space they deserve (as shown on the clip). Shame on you Waitrose.

Shame on you! You are an uninformed dick! . I raise multiple pigs. The are fed showrite products and given bedding every week as there isn't as many.
