This is the lightbar you've likely seen on top of that Thermaltake Level 10 box in my room. It is now permanently mounted to the top of my 1988 9C1 and is fully operational. This is a video showing both this lightbar, plus the Tomar RECT-37 strobes in the back window. This lightbar makes the 9C1 look rather awesome.
The controller is a Federal Signal SW400SS. The arrow function is currently not enabled due to lack of sufficient switches on the controller.

The LP6000 was one of three bars that Phoenix PD put on these cars. It was #2 to the Whelen 8000 which looked good with lenses that hadn't faded so bad they turned green, and the other bar was the Federal JetSonic that was on some later '89s and '90s. This bar might not be period correct, but it does look good on this car. Thanks for watching my video!

You're absolutely right, however there is at least one of these cars in the Tolleson (AZ) police department still in service and it has one of these bars on it. Looks great! I've had this car for 11 years now and TBH the only lightbar that would go on it is the one that's on it now. I used to have a 52" Whelen Edge 9000 that only saw 'duty' in my 'man cave'.

Punchy set up. Love it. Never liked the bars a whole lot. The Lenses were the first to go. They always got heavily oxidized and sun bleached. I remember the RCMP ran them for a while. Then did a fleet wide change and I remember seeing hundreds of these bars piled up in tall vertical piles behind a shed out at Depot Div. Massive amounts of them. Yours, even with the ambers, looks great though! Love the car too. and the rear window set up, all in all, a good look!

Haven't seen one of these in ages. They offered them in strobe and flash combos or all flashers only, or strobe only.

my friend on his patrol car has this bar - but has the rear center strobe. is your bar not set up for the center strobe vs. the halogen light?
@silicon212
@silicon212 10 жыл бұрын
The bar has undergone a couple of changes since this video. The center lighthead is now indeed a strobe - it's a dual amber/red strobe. The two inboard lightheads are now wigwag LEDs (one red, one amber), and the outboards are strobe. It is set up like the -002 series (Mesa PD style with the exception of LEDs instead of halogen).

I guess you’re a security officer with a light bar much better than the leds we use now. Is that a 89 or 90 Caprice Police? I started in 83, completed the academy in 84, and was issued a 79 LTD 2 sedan with a 460 cid Police pkg. Only I worked for a metro with about 3700 officers, so my car only had round red & blue halogen in the grill & deck, a dual tone with 2 100watt speakers behind the grill. A 150watt Unity chrome post spotlight that was white on one side & steady burning red on the other, the passenger’s side had single chrome 150watt white light. And it had a MDT taking up most of the room, where we would get stacked calls for service & run plates or communicate with all patrol officers or singular Police officers. Other academy colleagues got the bubble gum machine light bar with 2 100 watt speakers between the red & blue plus alley lights & take downs, along with wig wag head lamps & tail lights put in from Federal Signal, or Wheelen. I mention this because up until 2012 we still had old stone lights when tiny departments were already replacing LEDs w/generation 4 LEDs? Big departments actually keep switching emergency equipment from old cars with 200K miles to new Police cars, but if they purchased excellent equipment like Tomar overheads like what you demonstrate, we would have a huge decrease in crashes while running code. I never crashed while running code because I had halogens with a marked slick top patrol car, and we’re taught at the academy about running code with overheads and slick top cars. Good luck with that beautiful Police car, it’s outfitted really awesome.

@@silicon212 I drove a new patrol Caprice new, and a 1990 exactly like yours, that car was my favourite. I actually would have bought your car to outfit it with my metro’s marked units , but as before everything was always frugal relative to emergency equipment, but to this day we still use only Motorola encrypted trunking units & Motorola laptops instead of MDT’s mobile data terminals. Our agency actually placed 7 year old Federal Signal overheads that were great in 1983, but once we got new Chevy Caprice sedans, we thought we’d get the newest strobes, but we got old light bars. I’ve got 37 years working only patrol, but it looks terrible to see a brand new marked Police car with very old overheads. The dual tone sirens always worked great because F/S would install everything themselves. We even had new frugal markings that were reflective.

@@jesterflight8593 Back in the 1980s, the city of Phoenix (AZ) had this dubious flirtation with Whelen 8000 strobe bars. They put them on everything - from police cars to sanitation / public works trucks. They were clunky, ungainly, the blue lenses would turn green under the sun, and you almost could not see them activated under the sun. Around 1985, they started putting Code 3 LP6000 bars on the newest Impalas then the Caprices, those were halogen rotators but soooo much better than the old Whelens. Phoenix received a fleet of 1990 Caprices and those came upfitted with FedSig JetSonic bars and those looked good as well, but some got upfitted with repurposed old Whelen 8000 bars (hey at least they got new domes on them). Those weren't totally out of use until the mid 1990s.
