Reminder that when peas flower & produce fruit, most of the nitrogen stored below ground gets used up. A second covercrop of some type of cheap seed field pea that will self-winter kill before flowering or fruiting will fix some nitrogen in the ground for use in the spring. Don't pull stem/roots. Let the cheap peas sprawl across the ground rather than climb.

Great idea. I would love to see the progress of those peas in about four weeks

I seriously didn't know sugar snap peas would grow in the fall! I'm zone 5b, and grow them in the spring. Is my zone included for fall? Excellent use of tomatoe cages!

They should but when they should be planted will most likely be different and will depend on how long before your first frost

When the plant is done should I just chop and drop the vine and cover with grass and leafs for the winter. Michigan area.

Depends on final condition of the tomato plants. If you have cause to believe the tomatoes had blight or mildew, then pulling all the tomato vines, leaves and taking them to the burn barrel is best. You may even spread disease by composing blighted & mildewed vegetation. You can leave the base of the "stalk" & roots in the ground & dispose of the rest above soil level. Plenty of room for peas. I have nave never had blighted or mildewed peas. I usually chop & drop those vines. Cut the vine at soil level & leave the roots.
