Aka manto was the first game of Chillas that blew them up in the eyes of big youtubers. I remember John Wolfe, a popular horror gameplay channel, critiqued the developer saying that it felt like a rip off of puppet combo. They also had a couple other actually scary games that were this same type of style and gameplay. I honestly think they took everyone calling them a puppet combo ripoff to heart, because ever since they started making these type of games that are completely different. Which is sad because these first games are very tense and actually fun to play.

Nah, it's not a bit. When there isn't any sound that you're perceiving, you can sometimes hear your own bloodflow in your ears. Usually that just sounds like buzzing (think the sound that games use when you get hit by a flashbang). Not everyone hears it all the time though because its really quiet.

I'm not a bit horror game guy to begin with, that I'll preface. For me though, it is just a combination of every game having basically the same plot (i.e. they almost all have a supernatural element, whether it be a fake out or the main plot is blatantly supernatural, the police are useless, etc.), combined with some bad design decisions (several of their games do not feature saves despite being actively hunted by something - though I'll grant this mostly seems to be the case in their earlier games, some of their puzzles are really rough as well) and just general low quality that feels like it rarely improves. When the quality does improve, it is something like saves or a unique gimmick for that game but eh. It really just feels like they never move past being known as those two guys who did those quirky J-Horror games with a decent atmosphere.
