Thank you Dr Willem Van Cotthem for a clear, concise & fact based tutorial. I am preparing to germinate Tamarillo seeds right now from fruit from my tree. The info you showed is exactly what I was searching for. In addition to eating the fruit raw, I also make Tamarillo jam and Tamarillo chutney. Beste wensen from Mornington, Australia.

A branch fell off our Tamarillo (Tomato Tree) during a storm and we just stuck it in the ground and it grew. We have three trees now. The fruit from this can be used as a base for curries, preserved, or just fresh - my fav!

This isn't a tomatillo, while both fruits are in the same family a tomatillo looks more like a green tomato - this is a Tree Tomato (Tomato tree) or Tamarillo. Perhaps that is where the confusion comes from being similar words.

When collecting the seeds from the fruit, wash them first in a weak soap solution, then wash off the soap and let them dry thoroughly before getting them germinating.

Cher Codeur, Merci pour l'appréciation. Presque toutes les graines germent en obscurité. Il faut donc les couvrir d'une petite couche de terre (en général une couche de 2 fois la dimension des graines).

Dear Tanja, thanks for your appreciation. Images of mature tomato trees can be found on Google. in Belgium it is impossible to get adult trees due to our temperate climate.

Been watching many videos om propogating exotic fruit trees from seed. For once, can someone say how long the germination period was from seed to transplanting. every video is like a cooking show and ends with " here is one i made earlier " but no one knows how long it took and reason why people continuously ask this particular question. Please if you want to show a video of growing something from seed at least say how long it took. This is not a dig at this particular video, it was good and informative, i just want to know how long it took from seed to plant in a yoghurt container. Thank you, my rant over.

Sincere thanks. My logic tells me that a tree tomato is a tomato growing on a tree, while the tomato tree is a tree producing tomatoes. Google mentions the two terms.

tamarillo is a modern New Zealand word for the tree tomato. Anyone speaking from South America (its homeland) can call it what they like.
