For anyone who doesn’t know what the movie is, it’s “Erin Brockovich”. It’s a true story of the real life of Erin Brockovich who’s diligent work as a paralegal brought about a huge class action lawsuit against Pacific Gas and Electric Company for contaminating the groundwater of Hinkley, California. Excellent movie and beautifully played by Julia Roberts.

It still shouldn't make you treat a person differently as a result. The thing is when she doesn’t care to take others feelings into account by how she acts and dresses when they’re made to follow the rules, she can’t expect others will be willing to lend a hand. The desk woman’s job is not helping Erin get her stuff in order. That’s called a favor, small but still this is why it’s important to at least be nice if she’s gonna go and be this unorthodox, cuz she’ll still need help from others no matter how brilliant she is at cracking a case. Otherwise you’d see the boss himself being a tyrant, but he needs his office’s support to get what he needs done too even though I’m sure he knows how to do all their jobs.
@Taerynthea

@@Patience2dream- She asked in a polite way. She wasn’t rude to the woman behind the desk. She simply requested clarification on something that would be an oddity to anyone. F them clients lol my priority here is her fashion choice that I disagree and that has literally zero impact on my life or on the job she is performing. I don’t care what she says, IT WAS INAPPROPRIATE TO DRESS THAT WAY in that specific work environment (it was a law firm). Given it was a law firm, and NOT a strip club NOR a Hooters, it was wrong to dress that way. Women who dress that way ARE INSECURE and ARE looking for attention, and validation from men in a s*xual way to make them feel good about themselves. THAT IS WHY THEY DRESS THAT WAY. I have no problem with a woman who wants to dress that way IN HER PERSONAL LIFE. I say, if you got it flaunt it, ON YOUR OWN TIME. Eighties and even nineties corporate was a different world than it is now... There was an expectation that women exude masculine confidence (as well as be chill with being sexualized). While all of these issues still exist, it's absolutely not as bad as it was. Erin was doing the power moves essential to prosper in the corporate environment she was apart of. This was the wolf of wall street, apologies mean you're weak era. Definitely wouldn't, and shouldn't, fly today... But we've also regressed a bit when it comes to acceptance of self expression in the work place. Major home owner's association vibes. Personally, I don't see why we care if someone has cleavage or wears short skirts, if they're adults- particularly if they don't interact with the clientele...Just because I'm uncomfortable in my body doesn't mean others need to feel the same about theirs. There's always someone prettier, thinner, smarter. Forcing people to dim their light, makes for just as toxic of a work environment as one that's laissez-faire about it. ...Yelling at coworkers who won't do their job (particularly just to spite you) is inappropriate, but understandable. Particularly since she was actively trying to save lives, and was getting bricked walled because of sour grapes.

this story really happened. its not a question what we think about it, its about what happened for real. The film is portaying a single mother working herself up from secretary to partner in a law firm and saved lives with a memorable mega courtcase whos jurisdiction still changed america's history. Her autobiography was turned into a film. So this scene has really happened . As a secretary you are not supposed to be interested in the content of the courtfiles but only in your presentation. These people living around thus plant were getting cancer and all kinds ofdiseases when they were healthy even their children under 10 were getting sick. Anyway Erin brockovich was just a regular single mom waitress that met this lawyer after getting in a car accident. He couldn't get her a settlement and she was about to lose everything so she begged him to give her some kind of job, so he let her do filing until she started reading this stuff and she went on a road trip and started questioning these people and busted this thing wide open. I say, if you got flaunt it, ON YOUR OWN TIME. @SnowLeopardForever honey calm your tit's. We don't dress that way because we're insecure, it's the exact opposite. We know how good our body is and don't feel the need to cover it with layers. FYI Erin Brokovich runs her own company and charitable foundation now. She did just fine wearing those "inappropriate" outfits. 😂

There absolutely is something wrong with it if you're trying to wear your clubbing outfit to work. The women may shun her, but a lot of the men are also being made uncomfortable without feeling they can say anything. How's it going to look if she's bending over a desk to review papers with a lawyer, clearly exposing half her breasts to anyone that walks by, and his wife stops by the office to drop off his lunch? You think there isn't going to be a "discussion" about that when he gets home? She's not just making people feel uncomfortable, she's also putting some of them in a very unpleasant situation.

When I was 19 years old, I worked for Bank of America. I had a coworker who was tall and slim and 19 like me, all the other women complained about how she dressed. She did not dress provocatively, she actually dressed very conservative. But since they were all fat and obese and old, they complained about her. So, who was not tall and slim and pretty like her, I actually told them that they were just jealous. That they were just jealous because she was beautiful and tall and slim and young. That they should keep their noses out of her business and realize that youth and beautyon its own, was making them resentful against her. Since I was fat and frumpy, but 19, they were shocked that I would tell them that they were just jealous of her. They soon learned to keep their mouth shut. I am now 60 years old and I’m still friends with that girl that I defended. Her name is Myra, and I was always intrigued in the fact that she could wear anything and it looked amazing on her.

They hate that they can't outsmart me and they hate that they can't peg me as just a pretty face.. So what do they do They sabotage, create rumors, and find all kind of ways to downplay my work or not help me get ahead.. I've officially opened my own business this year

So every corporate is stupid for having a dress code? Not knowing what a professional dress code is not empowering. There are places to wear certain clothing, you can’t take half your tits out when your co-workers are following a dress code and call it “empowerment”. How ridiculous

i will never get why it matters what you wear for work. i work in a library and we're allowed to wear pretty much what we want. my coworker and i mostly wear merch and another coworker of mine wears pretty "provocative" clothing because she's something between punk and goth. why should it matter how much skin you show or if you wear an ugly dress shirt with an ugly tie? it's so dumb.

Because each home had people that were living in there that got sick, terribly sick, and it was all in the same neighborhood the people were getting sick and dying and Erin Brockovich came in and uncovered the fact that their homes were all sitting on an oil well and that's what made them all sick. And then she sued the oil company.

I think the coworker was pretty nice for explaining why the other girls were ostracizing her. Usually people just turn a blind eye because they don’t care, he wasn’t even rude about it. He just told her to rethink her (admittedly inappropriate for work) wardrobe because it was making the women uncomfortable. She returns his concern with a snarky remark and an insult to his tie. Which, might be ugly, but it’s appropriate for the job, and that’s what he’s talking about. 99% of companies don’t need an employee to be a fashion statement. Irl she would get fired for “poor job performance” and never understand why

I have quite literally never seen a pretty girl be treated badly primarily for being pretty. Not in school, not at work, nowhere. If she was ostracized, she did something. I don’t know where men come up with these things but it’s impressive. No proof, just an assumption. “Well they would have hated her anyways”

@@Firstofanyone I'm not trying to brag about myself....I'm 53 now, but when I was younger I was very pretty (according to others) and I can think of many times when a girl was jealous of me and treated me poorly .I'm a hairstylist- one day, many years ago, I was cutting this man's hair (like any other day) when his gf suddenly walks up and gets in my personal 3 feet of space. She stood far too close to me with her arms crossed and stared me down like I had just kissed him. My manager had to tell her where the chairs were so she would get away from me. I did nothing but cut his hair. Whatever was going on was her problem. The point is, I was treated poorly by a woman for doing my job bc she was jealous that I was cutting her boyfriend's hair. It was ridiculous.

Her attire was not appropriate for a law office, one of the female employees should have spoken to her instead of the male boss. I had an older sister tell me I needed to put on a lab coat cause I had on some really tight shiny stretch jeans on and my butt was doing the most. I didn't get offended, she was also a shapely big booty woman and I was like 20 or 21 and felt I could dress real casual since, I was just a file clerk.

She was hostile to other women. It is actually appropriate that they would have complained to the boss and not approached her directly. Even with him talking to her politely she body shames her other coworker for being overweight and insults him. Women need to understand that ugly sass like that isn't "empowering" or feminism.
