Thank god for the subtitles! I was finally able to understand what they were saying in some of the cutsecenes! The fake thick foreing accents muffled by the background noise track and some of the cryptic dialogue ("with the tommy-gun on my keyring" WTF is that supposed to mean?) made it soooo hard to understand what they were saying. Also, LOL, just noticed that the music during the ritual scene is totally the Temple of Doom played in reverse!

And plus, one other thing, when Bartoli’s henchman said ”With the tommy gun on my keyring” - I took help from my dad to hear what Bartoli’s henchman said once, and then my dad thought he said something in Italian. He really couldn’t hear what he said in English.

TR 2 is my favourite. It hit a sweet balance on interesting gameplay, difficult yet solvable puzzles, and a reasonable game length. The game was much more polished than TR 1, yet the puzzles and map designs were not as abstruse as TR 3 (London was a big mess imo) and TR 4 (It got really confusing since the armor seeking plot, and Cairo onwards was just frustrating.)

I'm currently replaying TR II (watching this as the Steam version keeps skipping cutscenes for me). It's.. I feel like you're forgetting all of the shitty elements of this game. Don't get me wrong, it's super nostalgic for me and I'm enjoying it, but good god it's annoying at times. Aside from Natla's mini bosses at the end, in TR I you only fight hostile wildlife. You only take damage if you let them get close and attack, you can dodge if you're careful though. TR II, from the second level, is almost entirely human enemies, with guns, hitscan and tanky. Especially in Venice, often in places where they get the drop on you every time. The fact most enemies drop health packs shows the developers realised each encounter is just an exercise in expending ammunition and health packs -- less than you gain, ideally. It's pure attrition, it's not fun at all. Even with the all weapons + ammo cheat it's still a chore to get through because of this. Then, there's the sucker punches. Traps and falls you have absolutely no way of seeing coming, until you've died once to them. Areas where you have to know, in advance, to drop down backwards in order to not die. Corridors that transition into a blind corner into a dead drop. Drops that you have to make, that guarantee fall damage. It's littered with these moments and they're a huge shame. Long ladder climbs are annoying but at least they don't force a reload. I end up saving every minute or so because I get so fed up of losing minutes of progress to another blind corner drop. It's very good in the early levels at showing you what switches and levers do, so the levels flow and you understand where to go next. By the end, especially in Tibet, it's terrible at it. Sometimes, it just doesn't show you. So you have to guess. It might be a door several rooms back has now opened -- you have no way of knowing, you just have to keep going back to every previously closed door to find out what happened. I love TR II it was my childhood, but let's not pretend it's perfect. It has a ton of sharp edges and poor decisions, but incredible atmosphere and when it flows it's such a great game.

1998. I was 6 when I rented tomb raider 2 as a kid. Playing the croft manner lever gives me a relieve after a bad day in kindergarten back then. As an adult from an exhausted day. It cheers me up cause graphics were awesome

Her absolute badass attitude is what I miss the most in the new games. She was such a raw and straight up no-BS woman. I got an anti-hero sort of vibe from the original Lara; she wasn't evil, but I didn't see her as some flawless hero either.

A lot of people don't get that about Lara, unfortunately. She was never designed to be an outright "hero" character. At times she could be considered quite amoral. I mean, technically what she does - tomb raiding - is illegal, but she doesn't give a toss.

So great to see these in full, I missed out on them back then. I had the game for PC back when I was a kid but somehow the cutscenes would never properly play. The sound would play in normal tempo but the cutscenes skipped a lot of parts. My only way of 'hearing' the cutscenes in full was by playing the audio tracks on the CD-ROM on my stereo.

It was the PC version. The game looks a lot better on PC, the Playstation version just looks werid. Textures shake and jitter randomly.

Claudio at the beginning is saying how the doors are to be open once someone worthy is ready to plunge the dagger into their heart. Fabio and Marco in the plane are talking about whether or not it is a good idea to search the Maria Doria for the Seraph, as its been so long the tide might have just carried the artefact away and it would be a waste of time. The Monk in Diving Area is telling Lara about the ship and how he's there to prevent Marco and his cult from salvaging said artefact from the waters below them. The last in game cutscene in the temple is just them doing some ritual.
