Tomb Raider 4 Glitchless SS Speedrun in

It started out sloppy, but I managed to reach my goal of sub 3:20:00! I think I'm done with this for now...

Because didn't have to use any crazy tricks to get there, I just jumped up a slope, and ran over some untextured floor tiles without breaking anything mechanically. It's different from out-of-bounds because I never passed any collision boundaries. The TR speedrunning community defines glitches as techniques that fool the game into thinking Lara is doing something she's not. Corner bugs teleport you upward, slope bugs let you do things on a slope that you should only be able to do on flat ground, ect. Flare cancels are one of the exceptions we allow because we feel like it.

Its a very large game, even if you do a speed run it have so much levels and very difficult puzzles. I've played it several times but I could never finish it without tricks.

From what I could gather, it eliminates the crouch animation Lara does when falling from relatively high places. With the flare in her hand, she falls standing straight up, and can walk/run straight away. I'm not sure if you need to press some button to throw the flare away, but this is what I could get from it.

I was thinking: Is it realy a SS speedrun? I thought SS didn't allowed saves/reloads things. Or i'm mistaken about SS meaning.

Sorry if TLDR, it's kind of a long story. The term "Single Segment" predominantly indicates that the game is completed in one sitting, as opposed to a segmented run in which one stops the timer after saving, and scraps the failed segments. Speedrun.com now has a distinction between "saves" and "no saves", although it doesn't put them in actual separate categories since that would basically mean wiping most of the previous records... I understand that runs with saves aren't as intense to watch, but they let the runner focus more on saving time, rather than staying alive at all costs. Think of it this way, in games with checkpoint systems, dying is obviously less optimal, but runs with deaths in them are still accepted as Single Segment, since the runner didn't cut anything out, and included all the time they lost by dying in the final time. There are always going to be purists who say RTA isn't "true" single segment, but I guess a lot of the tomb runners got fed up with hours and hours of their work going down the drain due to the MANY death scenarios in these games.

No idea. It wouldn't be too hard to test in TRLE, but as far as I know it's not possible to bring the bike to the Street Bazaar level.

Some enemies can't die either way (if you kill them with your weapons or the bike) but the Minotaur does have a death animation. Park your bike into the corner of the wall and as you lure the Minotaur in the corner, quickly jump back onto the bike and hopefully it should run into the bike and die.

Ah, I see. There's a couple of fixes for widescreen and some other stuff that you can find around steam community and searching the web. I personally recommend tombraiders(dot)net (Stella's Tomb Raider Site). There, on the "Resources" menu, you can find "Patches & Downloads", click it and to the left of this page you'll see a section called "Related Pages", which lists most of, if not all, the patches and fixes you can use to play the game on a newer OS. The site goes into a lot of detail for all the processes you have to make, which is really handy. Go check it out, I'm sure it will help you.

(idk how serious this comment is but I'll reply anyway) The funny thing is that the specific "OOB" strat you're referring to isn't even as fast as the "in-bounds" route for that part of the level. It's literally just safer, and I was told by multiple glitchless authorities at the time that it wasn't a glitch because this game uses a very specific definition of OOB where you just get teleported upwards any time you go inside a wall. According to the people I consulted, as long as I'm not actually passing through any solid objects, it's not OOB according to these games. It's entirely possible the rules have changed since then, but this is such a non-competitive category that it's unlikely they made the rules more strict later. Also I'm curious if you had seen any of the normal TR4 any% strats before commenting.

Let's say for instance you were competing in a professional video game tournament of some kind and you were to go out of bounds during any part of it your Al's Toy Barn looking self would be disqualified instantly. Basically all this is is a group of people who create their own rules to suit them. Yeah I've watched some Any% runs on loads of different games but I struggle to watch people just glitching their way through stuff like for example the Fallout any% speedruns are just a whole lot of fuckery and aren't entertaining in the slightest. Also apart from that out of bounds I enjoyed the gameplay and I've enjoyed watching the no load no heal gameplay as well.
