Tombasson Waterfall - Trinidad and Tobago

Deep in the heights of Guanapo lies a magnificant waterfall known as the Tombasson or Guanapo Waterfall.
This adventure should be done by experienced and intermediate hikers, it begins after a drive into the mountains, there is a river with several large cylinders that people frequent. There is a nice place to park.
From there we follow a very muddy road that can only be treversed on foot or with a 4x4. After about 45minutes of walking we meet a hunters camp. Depending on when you go, there may be a few hunters in the camp.
The road ends at a river and we turn left to head upstream. From here another half hour and we reach a fork in the river the left takes us to Guanapo Gorges and the right to the falls.
As we walk along the right river we meet a small waterfall thats formed a slide, if youre the adventorous kind and the hike leader allows it, its worth a slide down into the pool.
After that bit of fun and a snack we walk on for another hour climbing two smaller waterfalls and wading through two deep pools.
About two hours after your journey started you simply walk to the waterfall, the pool isnt deep so there is no jumping in, but the water is cool and refreshing and the rocks made a perfect ledge at the bottom of the falls to take pictures.
This hike takes you up a river with slippery rocks, so proper footwear should be worn. The two deep pools needed to cross also should be done with proper life jackets. Whilst we didnt encounter snakes, animal droppings were seen so one should be aware of wildlife.
Going to this waterfall should only be done with an experienced guide and it is not a hike for new persons.
