@SHICOFF1 Love your writing, I hope and wish he can read through, your experience really counts, this is truely a beautiful yet heaviest aria! you also remind me of one of my favorite, Jose Carreras, I heard that the famous conductor recommended so many big dramatic roles, his voice torn plus other ill factors, but today's pressure from all over be so heavy. It is really depending on one's coach and self ambition!!! Glad he is singing at Met Opera now.

"Tombe degli avi miei" follows the Lucia's mad scene and so Donizetti composed this aria as Edgardo's moment, his parallel death scene, to allow the tenor to have the a showpiece aria that must cannot be anti-climatic after the soprano's exit. Indeed, this aria is filled with challenges that are comparable to the mad scene, if not coloratura/glass harmonica fireworks, nevertheless calling for enormous breath control, legato singing, pathos and above all, passion. Tenor Kang Wang knocks it out of the park with a superb, wrenching, emotional rendition that meets this aria's great challenges with beauty, self-assurance and ringing tone Bravo, Kang Wang! Finally, there is something about Kang Wang's vocal gift which is cannot be taught, it is a gift. I am speaking of the beauty of Wang's instrument. It is rich and supple and velvety, and oh let me stop...it is an exceptionally beautiful vocal instrument.

it is always a challenge extra for Asian to be in the opera ballet field, yet it is stunning how fast the classical music and opera is spreading in asia, Mexico, and other latin american countries, almost ironic, though ton of people will still have their own little tinny bias, or secrets...I am very shocked at his natural beauty and so proud too, hope the best success for this young young guy!

@SHICOFF1 there are tons of opera fans in S. Korea, there are certainly millions of "hot hot fans" at China, they cannot access the KZbin! Even at early 80's, Pavarotti visited Beijing, and even brought his own chef because he wrote that chinese does not know how to cook Pasta, it is in his book! In spite of that, he hit big success and drew ton of fans, was a big plus in that area... and I do not think he lost any weight during that long visits. And of course, he always brought his origin of success opera: LaBoheme. He was trying to say that chinese people do not biased against opera of royal and elite, it is for ordinary poor people too, actually that was not what they were thinking of or against Opera then or now.

@SHICOFF1 thank you so much, it is so encouraging to me!, I am no expert but naturally drew in and think of this as a powerful youth with so decent voice and training

@SHICOFF1 wow, you are already doz times better knowledgeable on chinese cooking than Mr. P. It is laughable that he wrote a bio and wrote so so much details of his doubt on chinese chef to handle his food, so he brought his own chef there, but the whole crew with 2 MImis and whole orchestra had none, he said that he saw how orchestra musician suffered of not authentic italian cooking, he brought one guy into his hotel room, fed him so happy by his chef, and he basically stated that only italian knows to cook the pasta right few minutes then immediately cool it down by frozen cold water, to be perfect... it is so naive, probably he regret that, then and even more so now. If anyone read it now, it is truly laughable... He was so shocked by how many people rushed to watch his performance full house day in day out, how many fans waiting for signatures... yet he mocked many things, including beijing opera, food, and the city, of course at that time(1980), it was totally different than now, indeed poor condition. For how long, chinese public media, all media has been freely broadcast his arias, even went all the way to portray him as a perfect artist with a perfect family... wife waiting patiently at home, and 2 daughters hiding all the gift candy and cookies away from him... devoted husband, his wife watching his video while he was constantly traveling, this type of propaganda went right into the mid 1990's then we all knew that he divorced his wife to marry the younger assistant, then the gov voice shy away from that perfect husband story... still his singing remains the main street of classical male voice, rarely anyone else, like Tucker, Corelli or Swedish greats, Jussi and Nicolai... no mention at all... Maybe I am too biased against him...

Obviously this guy is just terrific. But there's another questions that needs answering. There are a many KZbin videos of famous Western tenors who also can sing the shit out of this: Pavarotti, Carreras, Gedda, Beczala, Shicoff, Di Stefano, etc. I heard Pavarotti and Shicoff live in the theater. How can this virtually unknown Korean be as good or better than all these exceptional western tenors? The simple answer is that Asian male voices are pitched on average a little higher than European, just as African voices are pitched a little lower. Not all of course. People vary. Basses are usually tall but Sam Ramey - the best operatic bass of recent years - is a mere six feet. In forty years of season tickets to SF Opera and my own little opera company, I heard very damn few real High Cs from full sized tenors. But every Korean, Chinese or Japanese tenors - and there are a lot of them - pop out a top C with ease.
